Grassy Defense Egg

Perhaps a little more rotund and commonly 'egg'-shaped than most, this egg sits straight up in its hollow of sand, at attention it seems in defense against any shenanigans. Its peak tapers up into a definite rounded point, a vaguely triangular apex coated in vibrant red. The base is similarly all one color, but a bright, deep blue; it's really very wide down there, too. Those two halves are split horizontally in the middle by a thick band of black. Above that, below its 'hat', it wears a smudgey patch of greyish white, like a cloud or a beard, and somewhere in the palest hint of flesh-tone are two creased slits that could be eyes squinted up with laughter.

Grassy Defense Egg rocks back and forth. Then it stops. Then it begins to rock again. Then some more and finally a single crack appears straight down the middle and it explodes suddenly with a particularly strong force. Pieces of the shell fly through the air along with a considerable amount of goop and oozy egg stuff. In the place of the egg is now a slightly damp, bronze dragon. Dramatic entrance indeed.

Brazen Battalion Bronze

The strength of a fighter exudes from this dragon, his build rangy but taut with muscles and his bronze hide covered with smoke and fog like the clearing air of a battlefield. Prominent, determined eyeridges of aged-darkened brass crown alert and surveying eyes, lending wisdom to a slender face that is otherwise unassuming. His wings unfurl like banners, smoky swirling sails draped between lean spars, singed to black at the tips of his pinions. The clouds of conquest blanket him, ash collecting across his narrow shoulders, flecks of acrid debris and undertones of wrought iron flanking his frame all the way down to his tail and dagger-sharp, ebony claws. Tarnished shadows across his chest create the illusion of worn discs, decorating him like so many medals, and bright lines of copper edge each neckridge, honed and polished blades marching in jagged procession down his sinewed neck. Down below his underbelly is the truest shade of bronze, not tainted by the smoke and ash that shrouds the rest of him.

Temperament

From the beginning Riuth is a fiery personality, one that others may find difficult to contend with. He hatches from his egg and he's ready to roll, examining and questioning everything around him. As weyrling you'll oftentimes find yourself trying to explain why you can't fight this rule or speak up against some other issue. This has the potential to land you both in some hot water now and then. Riuth will need to learn that sometimes rules are in place for a reason and it will become your job to teach him that. He'll initially see the weyrling staff as the enemy, their only goal being the entrapment of both of you. This will make for a rocky beginning, but once he begins to settle down a different side of him will start to emerge.

It will take some time, but after awhile he'll stop trying to rebel against every single rule and fight every lesson. And once you're able to teach him to take the time to listen and pay attention, you'll see that he picks up the lessons with an ease that is almost eerie. He'll excel in the flight formations and pick them up with nearly exact precision. And of course, if he doesn't like the way Morveuth explains something, he'll feel inclined to tell him and perhaps not in the kindest tones. « That picture is not sufficient, they will not understand. This one is better. » He'll butt in, offer his advice when it's not asked for and in general drive those around him crazy with it.

And as for his brothers and sisters? They're his comrades in arms, his fellows, and regardless of how they behave or feel about him, he'll have their backs. He'll be ready to rush to their defense and fight alongside them, forgetting any past differences. This unwavering loyalty is extended not just to his clutchmates, but to you as well. You will be his co-conspirator, his confidante, the one he informs of all his hastily decided plans of action. Whatever direction you decide to pursue, he will be there alongside you, the unfaltering ally.

Once the growing pains of weyrlinghood have passed, Riuth will emerge as a somewhat well-rounded dragon. He'll slowly cease to be the spitfire that got you into all that trouble. The fights, the spats of temper and dogged insistence will be traded for something else. As he ages he'll become cooler, his temper switching gears from hothead to analytical thinker. He won't allow his personal feelings to get in the way of the goals he's pursuing. And he'll expect the same from you.

The questioning of rules and regulations from earlier in his life will forever be there, and you will on many occasions find him nagging at you about them. He won't be satisfied with you sitting back and allowing others to take the reins of control, either. No, Riuth is going to push you forward, regardless of your own personal interest in the matter. He seeks to create a better place for you, him and all those he loves and cares for. He can't do this without you and so therefore he'll do all in his power to show you how much better it would be if you and himself were in charge or at the very least, a high ranking part of whatever regime he's decided needs to be implemented. If you feel differently, this could very well be a lifelong fight.

Despite his drive and those flares of temper that you'll see now and again, Riuth still knows how to enjoy himself. He revels in the companionship of others and he wants nothing more than to lie out in the sun with the other dragons of Ista, trading stories (real or imagined) and exploring the jungles of the island. Gathers of any sort will be of particular interest to him. When you attend them, you'll often find that Riuth has crept increasingly closer during the course of the day and night, wanting to get nearer to the action. He's interested in the people, the celebration and all the excitement. He'll be remarkably good natured about any children he encounters as well.

Gold flights or green flights, it doesn't matter to Riuth. He loves all the ladies and there won't be a more passionate suitor in sight or at the very least, a showier one. This doesn't mean he always succeeds, in fact, many times his over the top actions cause him to lose. When he does win though, he'll be as devoted as his mate of the hour allows him to be.

With the greens, he'll hover around them for days until they're eventually tired of his clinginess. He'll move on, but reluctantly, lamenting for days about losing his love, his muse. Eventually however, he'll forget and there'll be another flight. A won gold flight will bring out the fatherly side of Riuth. His new home will become the sands with the mother of his eggs; he'll dote on her and the clutch. He'll make it difficult for you to go to drills or perform any activity that involves you needing him as you'll have to practically drag him away from his burgeoning family. By the time the eggs have hatched, it is likely that you and the gold's rider will be more than relieved, if only to see Riuth's doting obsession come to a close.

Fighting within his wing is one of Riuth's favorite activities. He loves the patterns, the techniques and the socialization that occurs there. This is one dragon that garners a great deal of joy from getting the job done right and the praise that comes with it. He's not only in it for himself either, he'll patiently correct a wingmate, desiring only for them to learn more and become a more proficient fighter. After all, he can't do his job well if those around him are doing theirs poorly. He strives to be a team player, to aid those around him and help create a unified whole. But this is Riuth and while he's doing that, he can't help but try and snuff out the things that hinder him.

Things like this may or may not become a conflict for the leading dragons in his wing later on down the road. If he feels it's appropriate, Riuth won't hesitate to correct them as well. If he doesn't feel a connection with your wingleader's dragon, it could spell problems for you. It's entirely possible that you'll see a reoccurrence of those pesky behaviors from weyrlinghood if you're not careful to keep him in check. Not to mention after awhile he may start letting you know that he thinks you'd do a much better job of leading the wing.

Mindvoice

The first touch of his mind comes like a drum beat in the distance, the reverberation of countless footfalls over far off hills, moving closer. Voices echo, blurring together without words, the sound of a crowd, his own personal army the backdrop of his thoughts such that, at first, it might be difficult to pick out his voice among them, to find his jagged, rough tones amid the noise. But as he grows older, as you become more accustomed to one another, Riuth's voice will become clarion clear. His anger stirs those faceless crowds to battle, his joy to celebration, his sorrow to mourning and his gentle moments to a murmured hush.

Internal Impression Message

The whisper of the wind begins to sweep through your mind, tangling up and entwining until it's just perfect, a blend of battlefield smoke and the tangy Istan breeze. Then the soft beating of drums begins until it's louder, the beat fast and excited. There are no words at first as he encounters you, breezing quickly through memories, getting to know you as well as he can in those first few moments. He's investigative, rifling and reliving all the important moments of your life in one fast incredible rush. He evokes those emotions again, the good and the bad until finally he speaks to you, his voice like a loud bang as he interrupts the moment. « I am Riuth. You are a hunter, An'dren. Will you find me dinner? I am so hungry now. » The investigation for now has ceased, and instead Riuth's feelings of joy wash over you, overwhelming whatever unpleasantness he may have caused just seconds ago.

External Impression Message

Brazen Batallion Bronze Hatchling stalks back and forth past the candidates, going towards one and then other. It's almost as if he appears lost, his agitation beginning to grow. He stops by one young man for several seconds before abruptly changing direction, going all the way around and stopping definitively in front of a tall, reddish-haired boy.

Inspiration

The inspiration for your dragon comes from Independence days around the world and all those freedom fighters responsible for it. Riuth is meant to embody the rebellion, the good heartedness, the bravery, the passion and dogged persistence and all the things these types of days are meant to embrace, including the idealism that comes along with fighting for something that one believes so strongly in.
