The Small Lace Egg begins to roll, moving rapidly away from its clutchmates. Lodging in a depression in the sand, it spins erratically, bouncing a bit, the shell appearing to shiver. In an anticlimax, the egg slowly and neatly splits open, revealing its occupant.
Cloudswept Blue Hatchling
Like the sky on a warm summer's day, this hatchling displays an evenly coloured hide, hues of gentle azure on his back ranging through to the palest blue washes across his underside. Aquamarine and rainbow blues tint his wingsails and shimmer gently down his hindquarters. The only flaw in the otherwise perfect hide are the streaks of cirrus clouds; pale hazy white parallel bands that when seen in the wrong light could resemble thread scoring. Thankfully they lie on the underside of a leg and can only be seen when he moves a certain way, or is caught, scrabbling for purchase in the shifting sands as he attempts to right himself from his ungainly upside-down entrance to the world.

Cloudswept Blue raises his head, eyes whirling slowly and serenely as he finds the one he was meant for. He gazes into Bradamante's eyes.
