| So what if it's raining, Glacier will bitch about it, and does, but doesn't whine. When the small cluster of weyrlings join the shuffling mass, they get keen glances from a few. Some looks are bleary. Most don't pay a whole lot of attention. They're busy, even if one's just scratching his ear. The dragons are big for the most part, their riders not the most civilized. "Awake?" Leova checks, coming up by Edyis, suited up and blunt: no dragonhealer mode at all. Akluseth actually likes the rain, his companion, however, is probably best categorized as quietly resigned to deal with whatever is thrown her way today. "Yes, Ma'am." She answers Leova crisply, "Probably should have downed more klah at breakfast, though," Something of a sheepish smile curling over her lips as she adjusts Akluseth's straps one last time absently. "Drink it, you'll just have to piss it." Leova doesn't so much as shrug, "You'll know some of these already. By name, leastwise: that there's F'rint, and that pair he's talking to, used to be Weyrleaders. Living in the beat-up one's weyr, come to that." Which has seen changes. "F'rint, though: don't go thinking it's just a bluerider's knot." Edyis looks at the trio thoughtfully, perhaps memorizing faces, or at least making the attempt while Akluseth swishes his tail in the mud restlessly."I would hope I've learned better than to judge a dragon by the color of the hide, condition maybe." The last an attempt at levity, though something curious comes filtering through. "Do they still try to chase when the senior rises?" The last quieter and pitched not to carry beyond herself and the greenrider. "The rider, is what I mean. Should fly in Sleet by now. But got to drag him out, and all that." Leova's got a wry respect in her smoky voice, and she adds at a sharp whistle, "Better go, being called up. But. Never saw a bronze as didn't want." She tips the weyrling a nod and makes for Vrianth, who's serpentine and sharp-toothed and hungry for flight. They'll take off soon for drills, quick and hard and sweaty-making. That's the beginning. It doesn't take much for Edyis to fall into line, but that her gaze lingers when Leova mentions flying in Sleet might be telling. She falls to Akluseth, who is eager to be in the air as well, a deep watery rumble given as they set to task, eager to prove their worth as a pair, and as part of a larger team. Jo and Tacuseth rarely shirk duties, and so they're here amongst the rest of the wing, engaging in drills. Naturally, they're nearby when spotting Leova and Edyis...and yes, there's a whistling cat call. It just happens to come from her direction. She doesn't look like she cares about any dirty looks thrown her way for it. No dirty looks from Leova's vicinity, but rather a one-cornered grin. Vrianth's teamed up with clutchmate Sevierth for much of the drills, him going for it with gusto while she sweeps up and then some, but there's a lot of switching off. As the sevenday passes, different pairs will cycle in and out to work with different weyrlings. This time, Edyis and Akluseth will see some time with Sforzath among others, darkly testing Sforzath, and his equally lean but green-eyed rider. And then... lunch. It won't even be at a bar, not until the next-to-last day. Today it's a plateau out somewhere warm, some of the wingmates already starting to head off on rounds... and for the moment, Edyis is left to her own devices. It isn't a dirty look, but the flash of her smile might suggest Edyis's amusement. Still as the day progresses, she works hard at keeping Akluseth focused, but also watching the other pairs around them, they make a few mistakes but seem to correct for them rather quickly. Still when there's a break, and they are left to their own devices, Edyis can be found scratching Akluseth's favorite spot. « Glacier's fun. Did you see Vrianth and Sevierth!? Or Tacuseth? Think we'll ever work that well with a wing other than Cirrus some day? » It might be intended for Edyis, but he's not particularly careful about broadcasting his relentless enthusiasm. Once drills were over and lunch was served at the plateau that Jo and Tacuseth make their way over to them in the lull. "Not bad," is her greeting, nodding her way. "Ya kept up. It didn' tire Akluseth out?" The older blue seems to be studying the weyrling brown before he sends his way, « Well done. The drills aren' easy. » Akluseth's tail swishes, he's busy watching everyone else doing cool things. Jo's praise is met with a small flush. "He doesn't really tire easy, and its nice giving him something to throw all that energy at. I'm trying to keep a feel out for injuries or strains but he feels sound at the moment." There's a chuff at the blue, « Fun though, wonder if we could try some of those manuvers with Jorrth or Neianth. » Give him a good rub-down at the lake when yer done here," Jo suggests, giving a good stretch of her back. "Glacier can be gruellin' sometimes. He's still growin', too. Found any opinion on the wing?" Her cocky grin is in place now as Tacuseth advises Akluseth with « Might wanna take it easy on those moves. Yer tail's still growin' in all. 'Least with me, I'll keep an eye on ya. » Speaking of grueling... Glacier's wingleader makes the rounds. Taikrin's a roughly charismatic woman, bawdy with her wingmates and just as rough-spoken with the weyrlings, not above treating Edyis to a could-be-crushing grasp of a handshake just to see how she'll take it. She's got a look-over for Jo and a familiar comment, followed by a couple things to say about her wing, grandiose in a way that might be distracting fron their competence. This isn't selling Glacier, wouldn't be even if weyrlings had anything like a choice. This is seeing whether Edyis has any chance of walking their walk at all. « Still got a few feet on you. » Comes the mildly cocky response from the brown, but it's not nearly as bitter as it once might have been, more in the spirit of jovial camaraderie. "That's advice I can certainly follow." She murmurs smirking at the bluerider. And before she can give an answer the devil herself has approached. For the grip, she doesn't flinch though she might flex her fingers after (when she thinks no one is looking) to make sure no bones were crushed. While she's eager to please, there is a reservedness about Edyis's demeanor and questions. Like a kid waiting for their name to get called for one of the teams in a game of tag. She knows she doesn't get a choice, but it's obvious she's at least a little hopeful. If there's draconic laughter, it could be heard at this moment from Tacuseth as he sends, « 'N ya'll still fall, young'in. » With Taikrin approaching, that doesn't change Jo's demeanor not one single bit. Her banter with the wingleader is familiar and easy - as if the two had history beyond the wing. With Taikrin pulling the intimidation tactics on Edyis, "Gotta have some balls for this wing, darlin'," she adds behind her, her amusement lingering. "If not, be good at pretendin' ya got'em 'til ya really do. She didn' give up durin' drills," gets noted to Taikrin. Her opinion. History, for certain. Harder to say what the once-Weyrleader makes of the girl: Edyis is hardly a bruiser, and Taikrin's been known to use up those that are too eager to please. Still, she gives Edyis a second glance at Jo's commendation, and has a couple more questions of the girl. But as inescapably as Taikrin's shown up, then she's off again, whistling; other people to see, other people to do. « Yeah yeah, old geezer. » Comes Akluseth's warm rippling tease for the older blue. "I have balls, Big ones. Just don't see much point in swinging them around unless its necessary." She grins wry to Jo relaxing a little, "You've seen them remember?" before adding more seriously and more respectfully answering questions, exhaling softly as the wingleader makes her way in the other direction, scratching a little furiously at the back of her neck. "Fucked that up didn't we?" She asks of Jo off handedly. The laughter this time is very similar to Jo's, being sent to Akluseth from Tacuseth - of approval, for sure. To Edyis's rejoinder, "Have I? Hmmm, might have to check again," Jo returns lightly, a finger going to her chin as if it's worth pondering. It's once Taikrin has moved on, the bluerider nodding towards her as she leaves, that she answers the weyrling with, "I'm probably biased, but Taikrin's the best wingleader to be with. It's best to be who ya are with her. In this wing, it's bound to come out anyway." A slight shrug is given before she offer in addition, "Be glad it's over. Get some food. Drink somethin' before ya go back. What happens now, happen." It's meant to be encouraging, apparently. |
