Description
By all accounts, Rhey is unremarkable: the kind of kid who must be older than he looks, the kind who tends to blend into a crowd with ease. He's short and skinny to the point of being scrawny, with a face better suited to seriousness than smiles, though he's cheerful enough despite that. A mop of brown hair shades his face, blue eyes frequently half lost beneath the too-long fringe of it.
WYSK
- Arrived at the Weyr as a Nabolese refugee in turn 32, but disappeared again a few months later. Despite initially claiming kinship with a handful of children who came in with him, he doesn't seem to have paid them any attention since.
- He was next seen at the Weyr as one of Rone's guards during the hatching... before he Impressed brown Rosvelth from the stands and was immediately accused of thievery by the claimant to Nabol.
- Word is there was (is?) a bounty on his head.
- Since the hatching, he's laid low. He doesn't... seem to be entirely sold on this dragonrider business, but what else can he do?
History
One of nearly a dozen kids, Rhey was left to his own devices from an early age: no one else had time to worry about him. It suited him; he was independent, interested in the world and eager to find a place for himself in it. Not ambitious, though - he was born into very nearly the lowest rung of Nabolese society, and he had no pretensions of raising himself above that. Still, he was determined to be successful in his own way.
In his early teens, he fell into a gang, as children from his sort of background often do. He quickly proved himself: small, agile, quick. He knew Nabol like the back of his hand - and it didn't take long before he was picking up information from everywhere. Want to know something about Nabol? Ask Rhey. If he doesn't know, he will soon.
By fifteen, he was largely his own man, as it were, with a network of local kids to help the information business. Oh, it was no empire, no network, and Rhey was no mastermind... but it worked. People paid for information, and Rhey's continued smallness made it ever so easy to blend in.
The death of Ustelan was, in many ways, a turning point: now, more than ever, people from outside the Hold wanted information... and Rhey was happy to oblige. The rewards were good.
The risks were...
Worth it.
Probably.
The rewards were good, but the risk-- it was a good piece of information he was after, and he found it, but having been seen in the process he had no recourse but to escape. He ended up at High Reaches as a refugee for a time, working as a middleman between H'vier and some of his own informants, but he found it tedious and boring. In the end, he joined Rone's militia just to get out and do something, a decision that ultimately had him back at the Weyr as a guard for the so-called 'Lord' during the hatching of Iesaryth and Vhaeryth's clutch.
Seeking to get away before he was noticed (it was, in fact, Rone that he needed to keep away from), his plans were rather foiled when he was sought out by Beyond The Pale Brown Rosvelth... and identified by everyone as a result.
Whoops.
Relationships
- A'rist: Keep your fucking dragon away from me. In fact, you stay away, too.
- Azaylia: Surprisingly uninterested in how I could help her.
- G'laer: You think you know who and what I am. You know nothing. Nothing.
- Ghena: You don't know any more than your brother does.
- H'vier: A contact. Useful?
- L'sha: You. Maybe I can use you. Just... don't hug me.
- Rone: I will take you down.
- Rosvelth: I don't know who you are. What you are. Why did you choose me? What did you see?
- Telavi: Doesn't ask as many questions as she could. Thankfully.
