gold Hraedhyth x bronze Cadejoth - 18 July 2014

From NorCon MUSH
[edit]
gold Hraedhyth x bronze Cadejoth
Approx. Age: 33 turns
Hatching: 18 July, 2014
Day 15, Month 4, Turn 35
Count: 10 eggs
Composition: 1 bronze, 3 brown, 2 blue, and 4 green
Egg Theme: Famous/favorite artworks
Dragon Theme: 'Creatives'
A full two turns after Z'ian's untimely accident, Hraedhyth rose in her third flight to confirm a new Weyrleader. It was a violence-filled flight, both on the ground and in the air, but in the end it was K'del's Cadejoth who caught the queen, thus making K'del the Weyrleader officially, for the second time.

On the second day of month two, turn thirty-five, Hraedhyth took to the sands alongside Cadejoth to lay ten eggs - a small clutch, but perhaps not surprisingly so, given the abbreviated end of the flight.

On the thirteenth day of month four - the sixteenth anniversary of former weyrwoman Satiet's death - the clutch hatched, resulting in one bronze, three brown, two blue and four green dragons; by all accounts it was considered a successful hatching, if notable due to the absence of Edeline of Tillek... and the birth defects of one of the browns.

Art Nouveau Egg

Wisps of soft pastel twist around this egg, ethereal. What patterns manage to break up the pink monotony shift between floral and geometric. Delicate in only its hue, a powder blue crescent arcs over the ovoid's peak, spots of gray following the arch ever so carefully. Organic perfection wrapped up in a layers of silk, the playful nature of this egg is revealed by the golden threads that deny any illusions of symmetry.

Inspiration: I love Alphonse Mucha and it was hard choosing just one picture to use as an inspiration. He's known for his female figures, crescent shapes, and being very precise in his work. [See image].

Into The Light Egg

This harmonious egg inscribes an elongated oval, its lines slimmer, longer than its brethren. The upper curves of the ovoid drowse, drift in dark, torpid greens, blues, purples, while - near the center - the shell slowly rouses in the light of sweet heather, pale ultramarine, and cotton...the slender, vertical fissure widening as it descends. Near the egg's heart, a series of small, verdant ellipses interrupt its drowsing, giving way to a reflection rendered in brightening lilacs, pinks, and whites. The base of the shell fully wakens into dawn with a liberal dotting of more of those ellipses, which bloom peacefully upon roseate indigo waters.

Inspiration: Based off of Claude Monet's water lilies ([See Image]). He's one of my favorite artists!

Rain and Cloud Egg

Shades of grey envelop this egg, entirely monochrome from a misty, foggy background to the more solid patterns that lurk about the foreground. Even those patterns are somehow insubstantial, as though reflected in a puddle, or lost beneath heavy clouds. A solid row of geometric shapes winds its way about the lower end of the egg, as if to fence in the hatchling resting snugly within - or protect them from whatever it is that lurks in the shadows beyond.

Mama's Messy Masterpiece Egg

There's no chance with Hraedhyth's watchful guard over her clutch that any littles snuck in and dragged tiny fingers all across the surface of this egg creating a chaotic mishmash of every bright and bold color paint they could get their grubby little fingers on. Yet, this egg looks every bit as though that's what's befallen it. Compared to more orderly or elegant clutchmates, this egg has few genuine compliments that could be given it beyond "colorful," and yet, there can be little doubt that it holds a special place in Hraedhyth's heart.

Inspiration: Mother's baby's finger-painting that goes on the fridge. Inelegant, sure, but it's Momma's favorite!

Reparo Egg

Delicate black lines scribble themselves all over this teeny tiny egg, leaving very few spots free of this intricate, almost script-like lace design. The patches of cream colored egg visible, if studied carefully, start to form an odd shape, almost like an aging Master's spectacles cast in relief.

Dancer Tilting Egg

This egg is buried tilted in its pile of sand, off-centered and leaning over as if it may fall at any moment, which is impressive given how large and round it is compared to its more oval counterparts. Its texture seems to be odd as well, fluffy and netted versus smooth, but that may be more in part to the streaks of color that run down the length of it in lines. It is mostly cream, though blue and gold and green seem to shade some of the lines, making shadows on itself.

The Imperial Egg

This egg is perhaps one of the smaller eggs, but its coloring stands out like a precious jewel among gray stones. Every inch of its oblong shell is brilliant sapphire, deep and rich with a mottled finish. Delicate golden tracery forms patterns over the azure, reminiscent of creeping vines, flower buds and gossamer webs. Near the top of the egg, more golden strings fall in fragile loops and interwoven lines like a bride's mantle made of gilded lace.

Inspiration: Czarevich Imperial Egg ([here]) - hand crafted by Peter Carl Faberge himself for the little prince Alexei, it is considered one of the Imperial Faberage eggs and a true piece of jewelry art the world over.

Sheer Sparkle Egg

There's something sensual about this mid-sized egg -- perhaps in the curves of the shell or in the warm colour that covers it, a creamy brown that evokes sandy beaches and hot sun. That's not what makes it so very noticeable though: it's as if a net made of glittering crystal has been thrown over the whole of the egg, pulled tight. It sparkles with hundreds of tiny points of light, no matter how dim the cavern may be, drawing attention away from its clutchmates. Shimmery and seductive, whatever comes out of it is likely to be fabulous.

Dante's Vengeance Egg

Crimson curtains shroud this egg in dramatic mystery, gold leaf accents sweeping over the rich shell in eccentric swirls. Bright yellow cuts through the center of that sanguine hue, parted by the ominous, ebony phantom that stains the otherwise vivid velvet. The dark figure is not without purpose, a glossy mark, a promise, of dark retribution from within.

Inspiration: Mead Schaeffer's 'The Count of Monte Cristo' is as dramatic a painting as the cautionary tale it is meant for. I admit to having a soft spot for this illustration because I had to paint a replica during one of my classes and I loved the color, as well as the dramatic expression. ([See image])

Unconditional Egg

Luminous cream gradients upward along the surface of this rather large egg, blending slowly into a creamy yellow. While it lacks the luster of any metallic sheen, there is, nonetheless, an endearing, evocative beauty in its simple buttery coloring: warm, gentle, all-encompassing in its cherubically fat radiance.

Tiny perfect green and boy

The Dancer Tilting egg has long sat at an angle; now, at the behest of a rattling from within, it topples over altogether, shattering into a flurry of artistic pieces as it hits the sands. A roar rises as this first dragon is hatched: a green, tiny and perfect, who promptly finds her partner with a boy still on his way onto the sands.

Long, regal, elegant blue

The Into the Light egg has been pulsing for long minutes as the life within struggles to free itself. There's barely a transition from those motions into a sudden fissure that splits the shell in half along dawn's light, a long, regal, elegant blue spilling forth onto the sands. Silently, he climbs to his feet, taking his time examining all the candidates, until the perfect one is chosen with an imperious bump of chin to legs.

Bright, apple-hued green

There will be no repairing the Reparo Egg; after rocking steadily for several minutes, it abruptly shatters into hundreds of little pieces, leaving behind a bright, apple-hued green. She shakes herself off, takes a few testing steps, and then hurls herself towards the nearest group of candidates. None of them are right, but one in the next group is: High Reaches' newest greenrider beams as they're collected by Telavi and taken off towards the food.

Slender tea-green and girl from the Weyr

The fat, round Unconditional Egg lands on its side after only one wobble, its buttery warmth not long for the world, shuddering and shattering into yellow confetti. Surprise! It's a slender tea-green hatchling, covered in shell-bits, no matter how long she tries to shake them off. Soon enough, she gives up in favour of finding her lifemate -- which she quickly does in a clump of white-robed girls from the Weyr.

Blue

The Imperial Egg finally fractures after its shivering efforts to get there. The cracks race in webs that follow the lines of gold. Bettors that went for the obvious are rewarded as a blue muzzle breaks through blue shell and the rest of the hatchling follows. His progress on the sands is initially slow, but gangly limbs don't trip him up too long. Soon enough he is forging ahead to examine the white-robed bodies. In this he isn't slow, swiftly locking eyes with his new lifemate and just as quickly following the assistant weyrlingmaster off the sands.

Green

The green left in the wake of the Mama's Messy Masterpiece Egg finds her partner promptly; just like that, there are no eggs left, and no dragons unpartnered. The green buries her head in her rider's middle, J'vain escorts them off, and an uneasy hush settles upon those candidates left behind. It's over. It's all over.
