Gold Info

What do we look for in a gold candidate?

This is a difficult question because every application we receive is unique, but broadly we look for players who:

  • consistently, enthusiastically exceed monthly minimums of the Feature Character Guidelines.
  • demonstrate an understanding of their complex character and how she fits into Fort as an area and with individuals in our community
  • proactively seek RP, playing widely and diversely with different players and situations, contributing to the development of area and individual stories when possible
  • communicate well OOCly, are flexible and mature in working with others
  • are committed to the character and the area

If you are thinking about applying gold in Fort, we encourage you to have candid discussions with admin about your expectations and goals for yourself as a player of a goldrider and for your character, if you have any; it is as important for us to be a good fit for you as it is for you to be a good fit for us and the area. Please understand that in the course of these conversations we may discuss possible options for if you do Impress, but none of these conversations are an indication that you will Impress. As the ultimate decision for Impression lies in the hands of our Search Committee, these conversations will be shared with them to give them the same insights unless you request specifically that certain information remain confidential to FTW admin.

What kind of IC and OOC commitment am I making when I apply for a gold?

Goldriders at Fort Weyr are Feature Characters and are asked to agree to the guidelines presented in Feature Character Guidelines. Most goldriders will be RP-only. We have a decoupled IC/OOC admin structure at Fort and while we certainly welcome interest in administrative duties from anyone wishing to play a goldrider, taking on the role of Senior Weyrwoman does not automatically convey an OOC admin role, or Head Admin status.

How is the clutchmother for PC clutches determined?

The most important consideration in who hosts the next PC clutch is the overall story of the area. That being said, if there is not a compelling story reason for one gold to rise for the PC clutch, interested goldriders should mail admin to ensure their interest is known and clutchmothers will rotate. We request that clutchmothers serve on Search Committee for their cycle and will ask them to be responsible for some clutch-related items such as bbposting about their flight, the clutching and so on. Clutchmothers will not be responsible for running the Search Cycle.

What about NPC clutches?

Unless otherwise worked out for story reasons, golds rise once every 2-4 turns in an Interval setting like NorCon. This translates to roughly once per RL year (twice in some years if the gold is an especially frequent riser). Goldriders who wish to have a NPC clutch should ask admin to make sure the timing fits with the bigger picture for the area. In some cases, admin may approach a goldrider to talk about having their NPC clutch at a certain time for story purposes.

NPC clutches will not be themed, but clutchmothers or clutchsires will be asked to bbpost about the flight, clutching and hatching; please plan to check in with admin about clutch size and anything unusual as you would with any other plot. RP around NPC clutches (including hatching feasts and the like) are always welcome!
