Turn 21
Early in the turn, several ships were declared lost at sea in the wake of storms that battered the bay between Fort and Ista, yet, as the raids showed no sign of letting up, a 'shark-bitten' body identifiable as one of the crew of one of the missing ships, the Scudder, washed ashore near Big Bay Hold. Not all that long after, another body was discovered, this one with clear stab wounds. Mid-turn, more raids occurred, this time at the close of Peyton's gather, and, following a meeting between apprentice Baker Jaeyi, Hattie and T'rev (and subsequently a meeting between the Weyrleaders), the Weyr found itself with raider prisoners and raider supply depots raided. Sadly, good news was followed by bad, when a mass grave containing the bodies of the crew of the Scudder was located by bronzerider Y'nolek.
As the turn moved on, former Candidate and daughter of Gar, Isobel, married Fort Hold's Steward, Esraval. However, it wasn't long before spirits were dampened once again, this time by the death of M'liam, blue Klevinth's, lost during a skirmish with raiders, and then by the kidnap of the Weyrleader's sister, Vanissa, weyrling to green Liath. Though Liath returned to Fort, she could not get a fix on her rider's location, though reported that she was indeed alive and unhurt. Despite it being a sensitive matter, the Weyrleaders refused to negotiate with terrorists, and, thankfully, Vanissa returned to the Weyr three sevens after her disappearance, thanks to intel from Dashaya, assistance from M'try and undercover work by B'kaiv.
In month 13 of turn 21, Lord Savilan of Fort Hold passed away, leaving many wondering who would step up to take over as Lord Fort. His son, Astivan? Brother, Esraval? Lady Astrella?
Turn 22
Before the conclusion of the first month of the new turn, Esraval was confirmed as Lord Warder for Astivan, until such a time as the boy was old enough to become Lord in his own right. It was during this period that the supply issues began to abate, with both regular and speciality orders finding their right locations on time. It didn't take long for Esraval to make sure that his name was the first on everyone's lips, what with his previous pledges to halt the raiders and everything working out oh so nicely. Following a meeting between Astivan and several minor holders, the boy was said to have been drunk or just plain incapable; it didn't take long for formal requests to be made, an emergency conclave to be held and for Esraval to be declared Lord Fort.
Guards soon began to be posted at minor holds and along roads, requested or otherwise, despite continued patrols by the Weyr, and, with the arrival of autumn, so too did Esraval's first legitimate child arrive, a son named Traivon. However, with good news for /one/ of Esraval's ladies came disaster for another - his mistress, Jaeyi, was caught lifting important Hold papers from his desk. Which was, as it turned out, treason, resulting in her being sent to the Hold's lockup.
Day 10 of month 12, Rivellan was put under house arrest, after accusations of his being the reason behind Astivan's recent 'illness' (poison). It didn't take long for the trail to lead to Leoren, Fiorella of Four Sons (and Astivan's betrothed) brother. Jaeyi disappeared from Fort's cells around the same time, whilst guards in the region continued to 'keep everyone safe' with their particular brand of security, with Journeyman Weaver Kaida among those - perhaps the only one who had the courage to dare to speak their mind directly to Esraval - with concerns about such behaviour.
Four days later, Esraval was detained and all began to unravel following testimony from a number of sources. Revealed was a web of lies and deceit woven between Fort's Lord and Rivellan of Fort Sea, leaving Astivan to reclaim his birthright, with the support of his mother, Lady Astrella. Rivellan was later executed for being the instigator of the whole conspiracy, as well as for conspiracy to murder (Salivan's death and Astivan's attempted murder) and the deaths of the Scudder crew. Esraval, Eidee and Leoren were sentenced to exile. Both Isobel and Jaeyi were found innocent of any wrongdoing.
Early in month 13, Peirith rose and was caught by T'kyn's bronze Dargonath, with Mecaith late to the chase, both he and his rider having been out of the Weyr at the time. Obsidian became the Weyrleader's wing, whilst T'rev continued as Wingleader of Flint. Other notable changes included the removal of Jantha as Weyrlingmaster, thanks to the new Weyrleader's lack of faith in women in positions of authority. Drills were stepped-up, with Obsidian sometimes drilling twice a day and the female riders in the wing relegated to the role of fetching and carrying (the tea, the hidework, etc).
