Month5

Weyrling Program
Month5
Month 4 - Month 5

Straps. Check. Wings. Check. Nausea. Che-ugh.

The beginning of this month will be spent finalizing up all your straps, completing them and ensure that they fit your still growing dragon-hope you think to leave extra material for letting them out! The weyrlingmasters and the Weyr's leatherworkers will rigorously inspect the straps to ensure they're safe. By now, your own new set of leathers should also be ready to go-they're not the nicest, most glamorous set, but they should suffice, fit you perfectly, and most importantly, come with a helmet in case your straps aren't secure. Just kidding. We hope.

An air of anticipation has overtaken the barracks as the first mounted flights loom, and now, it's finally time. By the second week of the month, though, expect the first dragons to start going up with their riders aboard! And by the time your dragon hits five months old, the barracks will be flying.

Of course, you still don't have a weyr just yet, or anywhere to fly to. But now that you can get aboard your dragon, you'll soon move to the most simple of aerial drills, moving from the ground to the air with the formations you've already learned. And sometime in the next month, expect to get a weyr-once the weyrlingmaster is satisfied your dragon can get you to and from there without hitting a bowl wall, of course.

Curfew continues to hold steady, as well as the drinking and sex rules in their currently (slightly) relaxed state. The dragons probably aren't going to freak out over a little human contact, although it's still frowned on more for providing a hazard to your training and creating relationships with others that might become a distraction as you progress into ever more dangerous activities of weyrlinghood.

Those in the leadership program can expect life to be even busier, of course, and everybody else can feel a little smug that their tiny shred of free time is more than those poor folks get.
