Flaaaaaaaaame. Flamethrowing!
New this week is one of the last hoops of weyrlinghood. You'll spend the first week or so of the month identifying proper firestone and learning how it works, as well as the very basics of flamethrower mechanics-the goldriders, of course, will be taken aside to learn the detailed hows and whys of those, from how they're assembled to proper safety with the fire and the chemicals.
Then, once you know all about that, The latter months will be spent practicing flaming itself. Just have your dragon to watch his tongue and think of his second stomach as he chews the stone, then have him belch back up flame. Afterward, the ash will have to be regurgitated: there are special ash pits set up for that, much as there are for your dragon's other wastes. During this time, there will probably be a number of bitten tongues and a few who get sick from ending up with the firestone in the wrong stomach, but with any luck, that will be the worst of the injuries.
One thing which will be heavily drilled into you is flaming safety. Never direct your flame at anyone or at anything which might be flammable. Watch out for clothes, hair, plants, animals, and anything else that could be around. Flaming will be carefully supervised and firestone will not be readily available outside classes. Flying and betweening might be more dangerous to you, but flaming is more dangerous to everyone else around you, and the weyrlingmaster isn't taking chances on that front-especially not after a couple of accidents you might have heard rumor of. Just ask N'thei.
Outside of those classes, the usual activities continue. You'll spend time with the wings, getting to know them, and you'll relay people from the bowl to weyrs and back now that you're flying on your own. You're also free to go visiting the Reaches coverage still; just get the weyrlingmaster's permission and off you go. Your dragons are old enough now that if for some reason (say, a hatching somewhere) you want to leave the High Reaches area for part of a day, you are allowed to do so with another rider. By and large, you have a lot of free time-but if you don't use it wisely, you're still going to end up in trouble.
