Vision and OOC Admin Guidelines

FTW Area Vision

Fort Weyr strives to be a welcoming, friendly and dynamic play environment that encourages and empowers our players to pursue characters and stories that interest them. Admin seeks to facilitate this vision and Fort's overall direction through open, honest communication with players, with particular attention to cultivating player involvement in and influence on the stories told as an area.

FTW Admin Guidelines

The role of FTW Admin is to serve the interests of the area and its players in achieving our area vision.

What can the community can expect from admin?

  • Admin will follow Feature Character Guidelines in their entirety with the following clarifications:
  • If an admin has no FC roles, activity requirements may be met by the collective activity of that admin's alts in the area (e.g. Alt1 does 3 scenes and Alt2 does 3 scenes in June).
  • If admin are not meeting feature character guidelines, they may be removed for the same reasons after one month of inactivity. As with feature characters, allowances for RL may be made on a case by case basis.
  • Open, willing and honest communication with community members including fellow admin, HRW area admin and game admin, with an appropriate level of transparency.
  • Open, honest communication still means communicating with maturity and respect. Honest doesn't mean baring our hearts and souls, but rather that we seek to be as upfront and candid with players as we can reasonably be.
  • Willingness to communicate means every admin is willing to communicate with every other person on game.
  • An appropriate level of transparency is offering players information that is asked for or volunteering information that is relevant. Sometimes, admin keeps information to themselves because a matter has not yet been decided (e.g. Admin3 has said they may need to step down, but it isn't yet certain) or because they genuinely don't know the answer (e.g. the plot is open-ended) or for other reasons, but in an effort to collaborate with our community effectively, we endeavor to offer as much transparency as we comfortably can.
  • You can contact admin by page, mail or email at ncftw.staff@gmail.com. Please be aware that though we will endeavor to get you as immediate a response as we can, there are some times when we will need to confer with one another before giving you the information or answers you seek.
  • We will make mistakes. We will endeavor to quickly catch and recognize when we have made one and be proactive in correcting and/or apologizing for those mistakes and take action to prevent the same mistakes from being made a second time. If you feel we've made a mistake (large scale, small scale, unsuitable dragons), please don't hesitate to bring it to our attention so we can make corrections; we want you to enjoy playing here as much or more than we do and no mistake is worth unspoken frustration.
  • Admin are players who have volunteered their time because they enjoy playing in Fort and wish to give up some of their time to administrative tasks to keep the area running smoothly. All players are encouraged to contribute to and collaborate with admin on area story without being admin; admin's role is to see the big picture and help instigate action that will create movement (either toward story goals or simply forward as in the case of open ended plots).

When should community members contact admin?

There are lots of reasons you might want to touch base with the admin team. Please contact us for any of the following reasons:

  • You have a question, comment or concern not addressed within the wiki pages or +lhelp.
  • Your RP has wide-ranging effects (e.g. on a group of NPCs, the Weyr, the sweep). Some examples of this type of RP may include: death of a PC or NPC, Acts of God (a blizzard, a rockslide, etc.), political actions that have broad or long-term impact, and spying.
  • You want to run an event for the area. This does not include personal events like mating flights or personal turnday parties or poker nights, etc.
  • You want to run a story arc that will impact more than just your own character.
  • You want to request a ST scene with a staff-run NPC (e.g. Headwoman, NPC Wingleader, Lord Holder, etc.)
  • You have issues with another player.
  • You need some guidance on your character's story.
  • And for other reasons not explicitly listed here.

What can FTW Admin expect from one another?

  • FTW Admin is a team with a team mindset. Everyone's voice counts equally and should be heard. Whenever possible, consensus will be reached. Where consensus is not possible, we shall strive for win-win, or compromise situations that are reasonable and fair to the area, ourselves and one another. We all share in the work and all enjoy the rewards.
  • The role of Head Admin is as area spokesperson when a single 'go to' person is needed and is responsible for communicating the views of the team in that role. The Head Admin will also be tiebreaker or deadlock settler if no consensus or other resolution of an issue can be found after a reasonable amount of time and effort by the admin team.
  • Team members should endeavor to be kind and considerate with one another. While we work toward a common goal, we also all have individual lives with different demands on our time; being aware, understanding and making reasonable allowances is helpful to the synergy that we strive for as a team.
