Evali
Prologue
- Evali's prologue is a continuation of Devaki's.
Eventually, though, he had to marry. Mindhealer or not, very clear on the dangers of inbreeding or not, it was the right thing to do for Dinami, brother of Henret, to marry ... and it was complicated by falling in love. Love, which made one mad, and yet it was this woman who kept him sanest. Another minor Lord's daughter's daughter. A woman who wanted nothing more than to continue her own work as an archivist. They bonded. They wed.
Evelti hadn't known anything about what was going on. She'd just been a child. She wasn't involved. She created false archives to give herself peace, making lists and writing down stories.
One day, she met a man who wanted every name traced. Wanted the lineages kept tracked. Wanted her to do that. She found, with some great surprise, that that man made her very happy indeed.
They had a son. He died.
Dinami didn't speak for a week.While not speaking, he walked. Sometimes, she walked with him.
It wasn't her he was angry at. It was his own mistake.
One day, in their walking, they found a cave.
It was the perfect place to store a secret.
They had a second son. He lived.
Description
Thin and tall, Evali is a wisp of a young woman who seems to be perpetually hiding behind rib-length wavy golden-blond hair. She is wiry of frame and cautious in her movements, pale skin dappled with freckles, long-fingered hands the only graceful thing about her. Her soft eyes are slate blue and often blank of any expression. She is frequently found in loose-fitting skirts and button-up shirts, all of her clothing tattered but comfortable hand-me-downs.
Background
Mindhealer Dinami, young brother of Henret, was exiled only for loyalty to his brother. Archivist Evelti was another rebel lord's youngest daughter, knowing nothing of the schemes and punished for them anyway.
Once exiled they met, and slowly fell in love.
That love resulted in a child, and then he had a child, and from that son there were three children: Devaki, Evali and Kinami.
Coming from a long line of Healers, and having heard stories of the past for her entire life, Evali wanted to be one too starting at a very early age. Her mother, a midwife, started training her for the job when she was around twelve, and she was always eager.
Being somewhat insular by nature, Evali never had close friends, but she always looked up to and confided in her older brother. When their parents died in the Comet Pass, she got even clingier to Devaki than before -- except for how she'd also inherited her mother's position. While Evali is the youngest of the midwives, and does have others to look up to, nowadays she lives for her job. Her brother makes the matches, and she handles the resulting children of that union.
