How to Join
Fort Weyr is always excited to see new faces! If you're interested in creating a character at Fort Weyr, please create your PC and follow the steps in the on-game CharGen to apply (these instructions are for residents, crafters, dragonrider instas and dragonrider transfers from off-game). If you are applying as a transfer from a PC area, please get permission from your area admin to pursue an in-game transfer before +mailing FTWAdmin with your request. If you are applying as a transfer from another game, please make sure your history has been reworked as needed to be consistent with NorCon theme and history. If you are interested in participating in our next search cycle as a candidate, insta-weyrling or search committee member, more information is located on our search pages.
Character Hooks
Character hooks are offered as some ideas that might offer a springboard for your imagination. We welcome a wide variety of characters in Fort, and invite you to use the ideas below (or variations of them) or your original ideas when you create your character. If you have any questions about the concepts listed below, feel free to contact FTWAdmin on game.
- Former Failures on the Sands include characters of Searchable age living at Fort Weyr that have been "encouraged" to Stand in the last couple of turns, particularly for the two most recent clutches (Elaruth's last clutch at Fort and Eliyaveith's only clutch). Point of contact: FTWAdmin
- Refugees are characters from the sweep area who hoped (pre-plague) the Weyr would be plague-free or whose homes were hit hard by plague (post-plague). Note: the mortality rate for the plague was 15% so home being hit hard is more likely to be 'crops died while people were too ill to tend them' than 'population decimated. Point of contact: FTWAdmin
- Do-Gooders are characters who have moved from other parts of Pern to help the worst hit area recover faster. Point of contact: FTWAdmin
- Ambitious Dragonriders are characters who will take advantage of death and doom to push their own agenda, securing themselves positions as wingleaders or wingseconds. Point of contact: N'rov
- Healers are characters who came to assist with the plague and have stayed on or those apprentices that ran away hoping to escape the plague (see BB 11/60) but got stuck at the Weyr because of quarantines. Point of contact: FTWAdmin
- Pretenders to the Throne are characters who claim Blood ties and seek the Weyr's support (but ultimately will not get it and/or are not actually related). Point of contact: FTWAdmin
- Work 'Release' are criminals ("lesser offenders" ... or those who can get their name on that list) sent from the mines to work the duration of their sentence in the fields of Southern Boll and Fort Hold. Some have since secretly slipped the leash and made it to the Weyr to try to start a new life while others may be Searched without the Weyr knowing their background. Point of contact: FTWAdmin
- Weyrborn Returned are characters who were born to members of the Weyr or are otherwise related to weyrfolk or riders and are now of Searchable age and have come to the Weyr in hopes of being allowed to Stand. Point of contact: FTWAdmin
- Vultures are characters who are landless holder-types from other parts of Pern hoping to take advantage of the recent plague by finding a chunk of land other holders can no longer manage, staying at the Weyr while they sort out transportation and likely places. Point of contact: FTWAdmin
- Monacoan Transplants are characters who followed Mirinda (riders, weyrfolk, etc.) or came to Stand for Zaisavyth and Vhaeryth's clutch, particularly those 24 or above who may not get the chance to Stand again at Monaco. Point of contact: Mirinda
- Southern Transplants are characters who followed Wingleader D'vro (riders, weyrfolk family of riders, etc.) when he came to Fort Weyr in early month 9, turn 39 or sometime after. Point of contact: D'vro
Candidate Specific Hooks
- 'Encouraged' to Stand are characters between the ages of 15 and 25 who are from Fort Weyr and have been strongly encouraged and perhaps even quietly provided incentives to Stand for Taeliyth and Leczuth's clutch. You may have Stood before, but this might be your first time giving into the pressure of duty. Point of contact: FTW Admin
- More Southerners are characters between the ages of 15 and 25 from Southern Weyr or Monaco Weyr who have been invited to Stand for Taeliyth and Leczuth's clutch, courtesy of some high level negotiations. Point of contact: FTW Admin
- Holdbred Breeders? are female characters between the ages of of 15 and 25 who are from smaller holdings that were affected by the plague throughout Fort's coverage area. These characters, upon meeting with the approval of a Search dragon, will be asked by their home holding to sign a Harper-made contract guaranteeing that any male offspring they produce will be fostered back to their home holding in exchange for permission to Stand for Fort's clutch. These contracts are sought as a means to replace the roughly 15% population loss due to the plague. Point of contact: FTW Admin
- Healers who have Seen Too Much are apprentice or senior apprentice healers between the ages of 15 and 25 who found the horrors of the plague to be too much for them to want to continue in their current careers and are seeking Search as a way 'out.' Point of contact: FTW Admin
