Description
Trimmed of fat and left with only the hard cut of muscle, R'oan is every inch the appearance of a dragonrider, with skin browned from daily drills and wind-chapped lips and calloused hands. The angle of his jaw is sharp, no softness touching the line of it or the high cut of his cheekbones. Above those cheekbones, almond shaped grey-green eyes lie hidden beneath hooded eyelids and the low line of thick, blonde brows. Wrinkles catch in the corners here, even when unsmiling. Darker blonde hair is thick, kept long enough to run fingers through.
History
Rorande was the youngest boy to step onto the sun-baked sands the day he Impressed, a weyr-born and bred orphan that no one doubted would find a dragon. His father had ridden bronze, before he'd been taken Between on the back of his dragon, six months before Rorande was ever born and a month before his mother realized she was pregnant. His mother had ridden blue and had chosen her weyrmate not from a flight, but from what she always insisted was true love; ever the romantic was she. If she were alive, she'd romanticize the story of her own death; she'd say that she choose to follow her soulmate rather than fight the blood loss that came with Rorande's birth.
But she wasn't alive. At thirteen turns, Rorande took to the sands by himself for Niyath's clutch by Soldreth, not even lifting his gaze to scan the crowd of dragonriders he'd known all his life. When he Impressed brown Etrevth, it was the happiest moment of his life. It wasn't until months later that he would start to question whether it was a good thing or a bad thing to be a dragonrider. Whether he ever wanted it in the first place.
He graduated from weyrlinghood into Sandstone Wing, already having the predisposition for their methods and a predilection for bending the rules of training. But that combination of rule bending itself and an unambitious attitude and the dark moods that R'oan was prone to falling into kept him from finding himself any higher than wingrider.
The whole of his teenage years, his twenties, were spent as a dragonrider. And those turns were spent in and out of the weyrs of others, never in one long enough to form any attachments. If he had any children, either by flight or outside of it, no one ever told him. Whether it's because of his dark attitude and the unwelcoming of such news or otherwise, R'oan's never thought to check.
