Leadership

Weyrling Program
Month 3 - Month 5

The IC

Silver Threaded Knots

Sometime in the beginning of your fourth month as weyrlings, several members of your class might find a silver thread left on their cots to reknot into your weyrling knots. While the idea of even more work is sometimes a burden, given your dragon and your lessons give you very little free time already, there are very few who decline.

Those who do accept will find that the silver thread addition to your weyrling knot is not always all its cracked up to be. While the other weyrlings might be sleeping, you may find some hours spent in the training room with a glow lantern to catch up on work for both your regular weyrling classes as well as your new leadership ones. And this is only the beginning!

The OOC

If you are not selected at this point, it merely means the admin team did not see roleplay or vignettes that conveyed an interest in leadership. It also means we are just not aware of your interest. If you are still interested, please +mail the administrative team, and we will attempt to schedule roleplay scenes with you so that your character can present an IC case for why they should be included in this program and join in a few weeks later than the others. Please remember that this is purely for roleplay's sake. Being or not being a silver-threaded weyrling says nothing about you OOC or what you might be capable of doing after graduation.

Additional Work

  • Wingleaders: Threadfighting Theories
  • Wingleaders: Formations, New Formations, Why Things are Done the Way They Are (as opposed to regular classes where you memorize and learn the hows rather than whys).
  • Weyrwomen: Social dancing lessons.
  • Weyrlingmasters: Reading people and situations, and reacting appropriately.
  • Attendance of the daily wingleader meetings at least once a week, taking notes, and making sure a copy of these notes are on the Weyrleader's desk.

Goldrider Training

At this point, you're going to get loaded up on additional work, too. There's no declining, though; this is just your life as it is, now. You'll be learning the layout of the storerooms, what goes where and which of the many assistant headwomen manage what. While your fellow weyrlings might be able to relax or enjoy a nice day outdoors, it might be hard to juggle your time with the addition of practical experience with your new found knowledge. Hope you learn quick!

  • Weyr Management: Supply versus demand and how to 'make do.'
  • Weyr Management: The Weyr's Ledgers (aka, how the Weyr supplements its tithes).
  • Weyr Management: Meeting the kitchen staff. Planning meals, cutting out excess.
  • Weyr Management: Meeting the Headwoman and her assistants.
  • Attendance of weekly weyrwomen meetings, taking notes, and making sure a copy of these notes are delivered to each weyrwoman's weyr.
  • Attendance of weekly lower caverns' staff meetings, taking notes, and making sure a copy of these notes are delivered to each person's abode.
