Description
Short and slender, with mousey-blonde hair and blue eyes, Delifa is in no way remarkable looking.
History
Delifa originally hails from High Reaches: her family all reside in the lower caverns of the Weyr, and have done so for about as many generations as anyone has records for. She showed aptitude for the healer craft as a pre-teen, and was sent to Apprentice in her thirteenth turn. Although she'd initially intended to request a posting back home just as soon as she was able, her time at the Hall uncovered a passion for pharmacy and teaching that shifted her ambitions. Ultimately, after walking the tables just before her twentieth turn, she remained at the Hall to teach pharmacy classes.
Known as a hard taskmaster, but also a talented teacher, Delifa spent many turns teaching at the Hall. Ultimately, she took over many of the younger classes due to her skills in dealing with pre-teens and teens; there was some suggestion that she was being groomed to become Apprentice Master at some point in the future. When she was thirty-eight, however, the Weyrhealer position at High Reaches Weyr came up. In view of the recent death of her father, and her mother's advanced age, she elected to put her own name forward, and was ultimately awarded the position. She took with her a young apprentice, Madilla, to whom she had taken a shine, and ultimately became a fixture in the High Reaches Infirmary.
Two turns later, a chance meeting with a childhood friend of hers - Ellervan, now L'van, rider of blue Viarisuth - resulted in a surprisingly intense romance. It was only a few months later that Delifa discovered her pregnancy; a much-wanted event. Unfortunately, although she had always been healthy, her age resulted in a number of complications that eventually led to premature delivery of surprise twin daughters. Alas, although the elder, Delvana, was healthy, little Eliva did not survive - and another pregnancy was simply not going to be possible.
Delvana was nine when Delifa began to recognise the signs that something was wrong. She managed to keep it quiet for a few months, but not forever. When she took her symptoms to the Hall, her suspicions were confirmed: she was dying. Not immediately... but not so very long away, either. She kept working for as long as she could, but as the months passed, it all began to be too much. Early in Turn 30, Delifa resigned her position, and moved south with Delvana and L'van, in the hopes that the warmer climate might prolong her life.
On the 15th day of the third month of Turn 31, Delifa passed away. She was fifty-two.
