Tess
Description
The carriage, posture and poise of Tess' lithe and slender frame are indicative of good breeding, though at odds with the vitality that brims in every swift movement and in the near-constant quirk of her lips that means a smile is near. Dark blonde hair with red undertones frames Tess' angular jaw and pale oval face with its rounded nose, plump pink lips and light beauty mark just above and to the left of them. Her brows are delicately arched, augmenting the intelligence in her bright and curious cobalt gaze.
Tess favors functional yet elegant styles. She wears skirts and trousers with cleverly placed pockets, paired with a belt with a number of small pouches, base-layer shirts with form-fitting long sleeves and a blouse over top. Often, the colors are limited to tans, creams, and browns, but frequently she pairs these colors with pale shades of pink, lavender, blue, and green. In cold weather, she adds other layers (in the form of vests, sweaters, or coats). Her hair is often pulled back into a messy bun or slightly neater plaits to facilitate the ease of her work or play.
WYSK
- Eldest daughter of Holders at Fort River Hold (now broke thanks to Astivan, what a great guy!), never married but expected to one day (for the good of the Hold
- Is a bright, effervescent personality with keen empathy, an overabundance of natural curiosity and a ready smile
- Doesn't often wear a knot or advertise her craft, particularly her specialty (mindhealing), but if you know she's a healer then you probably know she loves being a healer
- If you know she's a healer, then you might know that she apprenticed at the age of 12 in turn 26, walked the tables at the age of 20 in turn 34, and got her first posting (Fort Weyr) at the age of 22
History
Tessari (Tess) is the oldest daughter of Milataeri and Gussarel, the Holders of Fort River Hold along the Fort River in a valley in the Fort mountain range. As first born, and a daughter, Tess' initial expectation in life was to be betrothed to marry some Blooded imbecile whose name, money, or connections were of benefit to her Hold and her parents. Imagine a girl who wouldn't be excited by those motivations! Well, unsurprisingly, Tess was one. Fortunately for Tess, she was smart and as she grew older, she developed a keen aptitude for the basic healing arts. She wasted no time when the healer made his rounds to the outlying Holds. It was more her persistence and passion for the craft (and for getting out of her home Hold) that got the Journeyman to broach the subject with her parents. It was reasoned that having a crafter for a daughter could only make her more marriageable. Surely a midwife would be of use wherever she married and spent her days! Her parents were convinced.
Once at the Hall, however, Tess took a different track. Not that she didn't let her family believe that one day she would give her hand in best advantage to them for many turns, but she worked hard, studied hard and proved herself a fairly gifted healer. It was around the time she was eighteen that her parents began to worry that she might be getting too old to make the match. That's when Tess broke the news to them. She had no intention of marrying and she was doing quite well on her own and without the influence her Blood afforded her, thankyouverymuch. It came as a shock and it was only her brother's interference with her father that kept her from getting disowned entirely. Gustel made a clever argument, telling her father that many Holders had more than one wife in their lives and what man wouldn't adore to have a woman his own age but never touched by the hand of man? If Tess' mother had her doubts, she kept her own council and her father was convinced that if Tess would agree to one day marry with advantage to the Hold, she could remain a member of the family. Gustel had no problem assuring him of this, whether or not Tess felt the same way.
When Tess was twenty, she walked the tables and took her specialty of mindhealing, while also spending some time in general practice. She worked under the guidance of her masters for two turns to get hands on training that was more dependent on her own competence than theirs, and at the age of twenty-two she received her first assignment: Fort Weyr. Her name was put forth for the posting because of her excellent listening skills and open-mindedness.
