Iskiveth was still several months less than two turns old when she rose in her maiden flight, to be caught by clutchmate Szadath. As a weyrling, the young queen had experimented with firestone, and there was serious concern that she might have rendered herself sterile as a result. Her flight was considered a good sign, though no one was sure that eggs would result-- and even once she laid her clutch of thirteen, there was plenty of suggestion that the eggs simply wouldn't hatch, or would hatch... wrong.
A number of weyrfolk of the appropriate age elected not to Stand for the clutch as a result - just in case. Nonetheless, the weyr managed to gather enough candidates to provide sufficient choice for the two bronzes, two browns, four blues and five greens that eventually hatched.
