She left the Weyr with Weyrwoman Irianke and Niahvth in early month 9, turn 37. Rumor got about that she'd gone to visit with Irianke's trading family. The rumor that it had been planned for only three or six months might have gotten not as far. The fact that Lycinea was gone for over a turn is probably only reason for tongues to wag in the wake of her return in late month 10, turn 38. Upon her return, she was quickly taken into Irianke's service once more, with the Weyrwoman's team of personal assistants and given a room (and a roommate, lucky [[Faryn]]!). It's easy to see the blonde is different, and in more ways than just a better fashion sense and better grooming standards; some speculate that she won't last long as Irianke's assistant, but only time will tell.

Lys (once Lycinea or Lya), rider of green Evyth at High Reaches Weyr

Arrived at the Weyr at the age of 6 (in turn 19) and was raised by the lower caverns folk (collectively).
Worked as a kitchen aid with a less than desirable attitude from turn 31/32 ish to turn 36 when Irianke made Lya her assistant.
Lycinea left the Weyr with Weyrwoman Irianke in M9 T37 after having been caved-in for 2 sevens.
Lycinea returned to the Weyr in late M10 T38 and resumed her position as one of Irianke's assistants, briefly, but stood for Niahvth and Roszadyth's clutches shortly after, Impressing Evyth in the latter M2 T39.
Lys was a hard-working weyrling who was tapped into Equinox Wing in M2 T40 after graduating from weyrlinghood.

Description

Blonde of hair and blue-green of eye, Lycinea's is a pretty face as these things go. Her features are symmetrical with a long nose, gently arched brows and full sweetheart lips. Smooth, pale peach skin holds a natural blush of pink in her cheeks. Often her eyes are outlined with dark kohl that sets off her light eyes. Her hair drapes down to the bottom of her rib cage when it's left free, though most often it's pulled back in some variety of intricate braids and frequently adorned with beads or small seashells. Her shoulders and frame are slender but not without curves of womanhood.

Her wardrobe is a wash of color. Largely choosing from muted shades for skirts and pants thick enough to suit High Reaches weather, the paler and lighter shades she chooses for blouses and sweaters contrast nicely. Boots are sturdy and have seen perhaps more than their fair share of miles in tread but well-cared for and still serviceable.

Lycinea remembers little of her first six turns spent in Balen Hold, and the only thing she really knows is that she wasn't with her real parents there either. She wasn't a bad child, so she couldn't rightly say why the fostering arrangement didn't work out. The couple had been nice, she recalled, otherwise childless and a little old, but nice. When she was six, she was uprooted from the home she'd known and brought to the Weyr to be fostered. Later looking back, she thought it strange since so often children were sent from the Weyr to be fostered elsewhere, but it might have had to do with what she overheard someone say to her first fostermother, "Better that she be there, with her own kind." She assumed thanks to other clues, though couldn't be sure, that this meant bastard children, since those happen in Weyrs with less to-do than when it happens in a Hold.

Once at the Weyr, she became a part of the collective in the lower caverns. She was one of several children that were simply raise by the figurative village rather than any particular individuals. Never feeling quite like she belonged, she lacked many of the friends that most weyrbrats naturally come to have and made herself more the outsider than they tried to make her. She wasn't especially good at anything that she could tell. She could sing, but only alright. She could read and write, but she was no poet. She hated animals. She was too squeamish to thread a grub onto a fishing hook. She was alright with figures but hadn't the brain for anything so complex as star charts. The smell of tanning leather made her gag. She was downright lousy with a needle. And she hated alcohol. That pretty well made crafts not an option when she came of age and needed to start contributing to the Weyr in more ways than just chores.

The one thing she could do was boil water without burning it. She didn't have the passion of a baker, but she was a fair enough student where those things were concerned, and how much talent does it really take to peel a tuber? So at thirteen when her only real friend (Zalmai) was going off to become a woodcrafter, she started as a helper in the kitchens of High Reaches Weyr. In the three turns she's worked there since, she's proven herself competent, at least, for the most part. Enough that they'll keep her at work there. Her attitude leaves something to be desired according to the cooks, but then what can they really expect from a bastard with not enough brain to do anything better with her life?

Her attitude improved for some brief time after the Storm in Tillek of turn 36 that claimed weyrwoman Aishani's life among many others. The significance of that event had personal impact in the form of sending Lycinea searching for a more fulfilling career in the Weyr, one that she might've found with the hairdressers or the Harper's assistants.

That was before Irianke came along and turned Lycinea's life upside-down. Who knew that taking an interest in the kitchen aide as her assistant could change a life so dramatically? Lycinea proved to be a dedicated and competent assistant to the temporary transfer weyrwoman until she had the ill-luck to end up in the tunnels that collapsed, getting trapped with Keysi, Leova, Ghena and H'kon for two sevens before they were freed. Badly shaken, it became apparent that being in a place where there was so much stone overhead wasn't doing Lycinea any good.
