Long-bodied and slender, trim without being tiny, Telavi is a lithe girl in her late teens or early twenties. Her face is long, too: long and narrow, with deep dimples when she smiles, a wide, full-lipped mouth, and a nose that could be handsomely masculine in a different context. She has blue-green eyes, set beneath expressive brows that are only slightly darker than the dark blonde of her waist-length hair.

Tela favors blouses in colors such as coral or slate blue with a touch of embroidery, that complement her fair, tanned skin and add vibrancy to nicely tailored but otherwise basic weyrling gear. She almost always wears a cap over her neatly braided and pinned-up hair, and for now, her weyrling knot sports a silver thread in addition to its usual green.

Tela's smartly tailored riding leathers are piped in the colors of the usually-embroidered blouses she likes to wear, coral and slate blue with hints of cream and plum that complement her fair, tanned skin and add vibrancy to the neutral brown wherhide. Her knot and badge are secured unobtrusively into place, and her hair's usually braided to avoid flight-tangling, allowing a glimpse of the tiny faceted studs in her ears.

* If you work in stores: Tela can still be found there at times, if only rarely now that rationing began in early turn 32. The former seamstress is a picky, picky, picky girl, but she puts things away and there haven't been any mysterious disappearances during her visits. (Are you cleaning out your weyr? Tela's still looking for a couple more couches, though they have to be just right.)
+
* If you hang out in the Snowasis: Tela showed up about once a seven, usually for a simple glass of beer or white wine, and usually only long enough to hook her catch of the day. Since joining Boreal, she visited more often in the company of her wingmates as well as former clutchmates, and was unobtrusive about making a cheap drink last. Around the end of Turn 32, what used to be a pattern varied drastically until around the time of the hatching in Turn 33; since then, she's mostly engaged in fly-bys and occasional longer visits, including with her former wing... but then, the weyrlings are still young enough to require irregular hours (and rumor has it that her co-workers have their own stash).
+
* If you were a wingleader when she was a weyrling: Telavi attended almost all of the meetings instead of the required one a sevenday. She stayed quiet, presentable, and attentive in a way that seemed quite natural, and at times she sought out an individual wingleader afterward for a quiet, thought-out question. Her notes for acting weyrleaders Taikrin and Sisha had become clear, concise and relatively unbiased, though if anything, she put a positive spin on interpersonal dynamics. She may have been sucking up, but at least it's subtle! It looked for a while there as though she would be tapped into Snowdrift, but reportedly, Z'ian pulled strings. Some might also know that she reports at intervals to Lady Tillek at the behest of the weyrwomen.
+
* If you were a weyrling with her: if you got on well before graduation... or maybe even if you didn't... she's probably happy to catch up with you now. She also often shows up to D'kan's poker nights, though she's still learning the game.
+
* If you were in Boreal: Telavi appeared to be enjoying Boreal, diminishing any rumors that it wasn't a wing she wanted. She made a habit of listening to more experienced riders and not getting snotty about her former silver thread status, though her love of <strike>questions</strike> analysis did come out sometimes, along with easy confidence and a definite sense of humor that sometimes verges on smartassery. She worked hard, dressed as girly as she could efficiently get away with, and liked to have a good time with the wing; it's just that one day a month that she wasn't good for much. Solith was more of a lightweight, but a cheerful lightweight.
+
* If you were a weyrling for her first class: Telavi's all about being helpful and cheerful and finding solutions. She is, however, not the most patient person on the planet, at all. She also gives haircuts quite gladly, despite being one of a couple girls who (or so rumor may have it) talked their way out of it in her class. Tela seems to enjoy her boss's company (at least when she's not caught being impatient...), is fine with J'vain, and I'zech... well, he's I'zech. As for Solith, she's generally happy to play (and/or to kill things), as long as nobody's too rough, more fearless than one might expect from her seeming fragility.
+
* If you're in Savannah: You're awesome, end of story.

Month 1 of Weyrlinghood:

It's hard to say how much Telavi had changed since the hatching, since she was Searched so very soon beforehand, but she certainly acted as though she hadn't had to acclimate to much. Yes, there were the occasional episodes of shy observation, but mostly she was friendly enough, self-confident and good-humoredly pleased at her luck. There was the traditional soft look in her eyes when she spotted her dragon (and the exasperation when Solith woke her up by licking her face), but mostly she carried Solith around on her shoulders nearly everywhere she went, much as a little girl might carry her doll or an older woman wear her marriage mark on a chain.
+
History
As for Solith herself, she remained small, with those insubstantial-looking wings she's so careful of when playing with the other hatchlings, and with an airy mind-sense that notices but glosses by nearly everything without particular remark. Maybe she really is an airhead?

Telavi was not a fan of exams. She didn't like being evaluated, and it wasn't a secret that she didn't really see the point once she proved she's not illiterate. Her handwriting wasn't bad, though it failed when she's in a hurry, and it's littered with abbreviations and run on sentences. Here's how her tests fell out:

* Math was her strong suit... to a point. Calculations, conversions, algebra and geometry, she could usually pull off in her head and quickly, too. (Even if she mentally translated it into figuring out fabric for a dress.) Anything beyond that, though, she had never learned.
+
* Meara and Quinlys were her WLMs, I'zech her favorite (maybe?) AWLM.
* History was her weak suit, for although she worked at it, there was a lot to learn in a short time. She approached K'zin and C'wlin, but they seemed to be pretty much opposites in terms of knowledge and pretty much the same in terms of usefulness. She hadn't yet been convinced what the point is about this either (beyond just passing exams), especially since High Reaches seems to be changing everything anyway.
+
* Alida, C'wlin, D'kan, E'sren, K'zin, N'hax, N'ky, and Sabella are people she Impressed with. There's always more to it, though, isn't there? In several cases, a lot more.
* Reading and writing were just fine for her in terms of understanding. Telavi showed she could learn things through reading and could express her opinions through writing, and that she knows her way around a persuasive argument. However, she wasn't the best at gauging the right amount of details to use to support her assertions, especially if an answer seemed obvious (she didn't like to show her work in math either) which was related to how she had little to no sense of formal structure. Essentially, her writing was a matter of transcribing what she would say out loud.
+
* Others include N'gan and Quielle, who used to be cute study partners but now N'gan can crawl up Faranth's backside and stay there, and J'tor whose Adrovanth Solith likes but as for J'tor himself, whatever. Sh'mel is a bit of a damp washcloth.
* When it comes to geography, let's just say that Telavi could place the major Holds, Crafts and Weyrs on a map, and a few more in the Benden coverage area... but that's about it. What might not have come across in examinations is that she also didn't have the best sense of direction.
+
* Jo dates back to Tela's former life, but now there's Solith, who plays around with Tacuseth... and looks up to H'kon's Arekoth.
+
* Speaking of former life: G'then is her uncle, Th'vin his weyrmate, Sasha her ex... but almost no one at HRW knows any of that.
+
* Tela's acquainted with Aishani and K'del as well as Azaylia by now, though in very different ways. Taikrin was impressive, Sisha effective but less exciting.
+
* Madilla might be perfect, her apprentice Jinja is fun, and <strike>Treinan</strike> the other one is a spoil-sport.
+
* Tayte is a vintner 'chum,' U'by is.. U'by?
+
* Lady Edeline is so uninformative.
+
* Babetta is very informative... when she's around, sigh.
+
* Quinlys' Olveraeth flew Solith the first time; H'vier's Reisoth the second (sorry, Tayte!).
+
* Boreal was her wing, Z'ian her wingleader, and old grumpy Oisa and not-so-old not-so-grumpy F'ren were her wingseconds before Oisa took over in Z'ian's absence. Wingmates included clutchmates C'wlin, E'sren and N'hax.
+
* She doesn't know R'hin's name. Make that, didn't... and now he's her wingleader.
+
* When Tela first took up working for Quinlys along with I'zech and J'vain, her junior class of weyrlings included A'rist, G'laer, Ghena, Klohi, L'sha, and Rh'mis.
+
* Lilabet (not Lily!) is sweet. And... she actually wants to be a greenrider...?!

Solith was often off wandering around, doing her own thing, or else sleeping (or 'sleeping') in somebody's couch, not necessarily her own. She liked to pick up things and bring them home. However, while Telavi took diligent care of her, the two just did't seem to be as close as a lot of other pairs.

The accident that landed Telavi, Alida, K'zin, and associated dragons in the infirmary was the major event of Tela's month, followed by a further report to Quinlys. Other than that, there was some studying (thanks to breakfast-mate Sabs' prodding), some hunting (Solith really, really likes hunting), and even some behaving.

Month 4:

This month saw Solith excited about flying for real (if this were a drinking game, you could have taken a gulp every time she fluttered), which led to her getting into things even more. She listened closely to other dragons who seemed to know what they're doing (even if they didn't), especially the older ones, and learned as best she could.

In contrast, Telavi's easy energy thinned with all the extra work she'd been given along with the silver thread (also in the group: E'sren and Sabella, who became her regular study partners, though she hung out with Quielle and N'gan as well). She'd never anticipated needing such skills, and she hadn't the drive and ambition of some of the others, to the point where she probably wouldn't have made it even that far without their encouragement; the divisiveness in reaction to the selection of a few didn't help either. Though she continued to regularly receive messages delivered from other places, Tela was replying with fewer and shorter missives in return, and some of the arrivals continued to get stuck in her clothespress unopened.

Telavi and Solith were looking forward to flying as a pair, and since Solith learned how to fly and Telavi knew how to ride, of course it was going to be as easy as pie. Right? Tela settled into her workload better, living on little sleep and actuallly relishing some of the new information and even more so the arguing (as well as getting to be a vtol on the wall while the wingleaders met). Solith also began to be lessoned by Rasavyth in how to get information from her rider, but she was still quite the neophyte. They could often be found around the lake, Solith in the lake and Tela haunting the diving cliff, with or without a variety of fellow weyrlings and occasionally others.
+

In the immediate aftermath of Sabella's fall, Solith's distress at Ghislaith's distress was more short-lived and easily calmed, while Telavi, not present at the time and then kept out of the infirmary, was left to wring her hands and promise that she'd take notes for Sabs, really she would. (E'sren's would probably be better, though.)

Partway through the month, Tela stopped overlooking I'zech so much. Near the end, she and Solith flew for the first time, something that could easily have been overlooked since so many of their clutchmates were already busy flying on their own... and it didn't go nearly as well as anticipated. The next day, Tela was called in for an end-of-lunch meeting with Meara. Wasn't she lucky that it wasn't Quinlys?

Flying wasn't as awful this month for Telavi and Solith, though playing elevator (with its opportunity to both gossip and get a glimpse of a variety of weyrs) ranked high above aerial drills in both their minds. Getting their weyr, and its sanctioned freedoms, was anything but awful. Feeling awful with cramps was awful, but at least it wasn't in the barracks, and getting a day off (C'wlin, favorite wingleader this month!) made it slightly less awful. Too bad about that 'contagious disease,' though!

Losing Quielle (okay, she wasn't lost, she was still around even if she got put on restrictions and everything) was pretty awful too, though with the wing split and information that hadn't immediately emerged, it took a while to really sink in. Tela deeply appreciated Sabella and E'sren's company and stability during the shifts in dynamics and workload as K'zin joined the group and she agreed to help him catch up, Quielle was kicked out, and N'gan started acting weird. Giving those things a high priority while trying to catch up in aerial drills meant that even fewer letters got answered, and she still didn't get any furniture except for the temporary clothespress that had joined the bed already in her weyr. At least there were visitors and visiting various ledges (including Rasavyth's) in turn, for reasons including studying and socializing, and even short excursions to the Snowasis to find other entertainment about once a sevenday. It's something, right?

Telavi had been keeping track of who said what about Quielle, and shortly after the truth finally came out and N'gan was finally kicked back into the barracks, Quinlys caught Tela getting on J'madri's case about it... which led to a talk in the weyrlingmasters' office. Since then, the chaos around Ysavaeth's subterfuge has been derailing in its own way, but it's early days yet.

I Am A: True Neutral Half-Elf Bard (2nd Level)

Alignment:
True Neutral A true neutral character does what seems to be a good idea. He doesn't feel strongly one way or the other when it comes to good vs. evil or law vs. chaos. Most true neutral characters exhibit a lack of conviction or bias rather than a commitment to neutrality. Such a character thinks of good as better than evil after all, he would rather have good neighbors and rulers than evil ones. Still, he's not personally committed to upholding good in any abstract or universal way. Some true neutral characters, on the other hand, commit themselves philosophically to neutrality. They see good, evil, law, and chaos as prejudices and dangerous extremes. They advocate the middle way of neutrality as the best, most balanced road in the long run. True neutral is the best alignment you can be because it means you act naturally, without prejudice or compulsion. However, true neutral can be a dangerous alignment when it represents apathy, indifference, and a lack of conviction.

Race:
Half-Elves have the curiosity and ambition for their human parent and the refined senses and love of nature of their elven parent, although they are outsiders among both cultures. To humans, half-elves are paler, fairer and smoother-skinned than their human parents, but their actual skin tones and other details vary just as human features do. Half-elves tend to have green, elven eyes. They live to about 180.
+

Class:
Bards often serve as negotiators, messengers, scouts, and spies. They love to accompany heroes (and villains) to witness heroic (or villainous) deeds firsthand, since a bard who can tell a story from personal experience earns renown among his fellows. A bard casts arcane spells without any advance preparation, much like a sorcerer. Bards also share some specialized skills with rogues, and their knowledge of item lore is nearly unmatched. A high Charisma score allows a bard to cast high-level spells.

WYSK

Telavi was Searched by Kait(lin) and Jormunth the day before the hatching, or the day of the hatching, depending on how you count.
Winds of Change green Solith isn't Telavi's other half, but she might be her better half.
Telavi's weyrbred, out of Benden. Yes, that may mean what you think it means: she really is a Benden fan. Go Benden!
It may also mean what you think it means: she'll flirt with a rock if it's cute or she's bored.
She also has a longtime 'boyfriend' of sorts, K'zin.
Telavi and Solith rode for Boreal. Those who pay attention to such things may remember they were in the silver thread group as weyrlings, but that's over now.
After Z'ian's 'accident,' Telavi became an assistant weyrlingmaster under Quinlys, working with I'zech and J'vain.
Then Savannah took her, and she liked it. Nita was there too.
Then Savannah left. (Just like a wing.)
Then Savannah came back and just like that, they were back together again... at least until Quinlys came looking around again.
Then there was more swapping until R'hin died and what's with her and doomed wingleaders anyway?

Description

Long-bodied and slender, trim without being tiny, Telavi is a lithe girl in her late teens or early twenties. Her face is long, too: long and narrow, with deep dimples when she smiles, a wide, full-lipped mouth, and a nose that could be handsomely masculine in a different context. She has blue-green eyes, set beneath expressive brows that are only slightly darker than the dark blonde of her waist-length hair.

  • Telavi was Searched by Kait(lin) and Jormunth the day before the hatching, or the day of the hatching, depending on how you count.
  • Winds of Change green Solith isn't Telavi's other half, but she might be her better half.
  • Telavi's weyrbred, out of Benden. Yes, that may mean what you think it means: she really is a Benden fan. Go Benden!
  • It may also mean what you think it means: she'll flirt with a rock if it's cute or she's bored.
  • Telavi and Solith rode for Boreal. Those who pay attention to such things may remember they were in the silver thread group as weyrlings, but that's over now.
  • After Z'ian's 'accident,' Telavi became an assistant weyrlingmaster under Quinlys, working with I'zech and J'vain.
  • Then Savannah took her, and she liked it. Nita was there too.
  • Then Savannah left. (Just like a wing.)
  • Then Savannah came back and just like that, they were back together again... at least until Quinlys came looking around again.

  • If you work in stores: Tela can still be found there at times, if only rarely now that rationing began in early turn 32. The former seamstress is a picky, picky, picky girl, but she puts things away and there haven't been any mysterious disappearances during her visits. (Are you cleaning out your weyr? Tela's still looking for a couple more couches, though they have to be just right.)
  • If you hang out in the Snowasis: Tela showed up about once a seven, usually for a simple glass of beer or white wine, and usually only long enough to hook her catch of the day.
  • If you were a wingleader when she was a weyrling: Telavi attended almost all of the meetings instead of the required one a sevenday.
  • If you were a weyrling with her: if you got on well before graduation... or maybe even if you didn't... she's probably happy to catch up with you now. She also often shows up to D'kan's poker nights, though she's still learning the game.
  • If you were in Boreal: Telavi appeared to be enjoying Boreal, diminishing any rumors that it wasn't a wing she wanted. She made a habit of listening to more experienced riders and not getting snotty about her former silver thread status, though her love of questions analysis did come out sometimes, along with easy confidence and a definite sense of humor that sometimes verges on smartassery. She worked hard, dressed as girly as she could efficiently get away with, and liked to have a good time with the wing; it's just that one day a month that she wasn't good for much. Solith was more of a lightweight, but a cheerful lightweight.
  • If you were a weyrling for her first class: Telavi's all about being helpful and cheerful and finding solutions.
  • If you're in Savannah: You're awesome, end of story.

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Telavi, with quite a few nicknames depending upon who you were and what you wanted with her. She worked as a seamstress at Benden Weyr, being the niece of G'then, rider of blue Toraveth. Searched to High Reaches at nineteen, she Impressed Winds of Change green Solith the following day (or the same day, depending on who's counting), was assigned to the silver thread group, and was eventually tapped into Boreal by wingleader Z'ian. Along the way she made friends, made not-so-friends, encountered pirates, and hasn't lost her touch with a needle.

  • Meara and Quinlys were her WLMs, I'zech her favorite (maybe?) AWLM.
  • Alida, C'wlin, D'kan, E'sren, K'zin, N'hax, N'ky, and Sabella are people she Impressed with. There's always more to it, though, isn't there? In several cases, a lot more.
  • Others include N'gan and Quielle, who used to be cute study partners but now N'gan can crawl up Faranth's backside and stay there, and J'tor whose Adrovanth Solith likes but as for J'tor himself, whatever. Sh'mel is a bit of a damp washcloth.
  • Jo dates back to Tela's former life, but now there's Solith, who plays around with Tacuseth... and looks up to H'kon's Arekoth.
  • Speaking of former life: G'then is her uncle, Th'vin his weyrmate, Sasha her ex... but almost no one at HRW knows any of that.
  • Tela's acquainted with Aishani and K'del as well as Azaylia by now, though in very different ways. Taikrin was impressive, Sisha effective but less exciting.
  • Madilla might be perfect, her apprentice Jinja is fun, and Treinan the other one is a spoil-sport.
  • Tayte is a vintner 'chum,' U'by is.. U'by?
  • Lady Edeline is so uninformative.
  • Babetta is very informative... when she's around, sigh.
  • Quinlys' Olveraeth flew Solith the first time; H'vier's Reisoth the second (sorry, Tayte!).
  • Boreal was her wing, Z'ian her wingleader, and old grumpy Oisa and not-so-old not-so-grumpy F'ren were her wingseconds before Oisa took over in Z'ian's absence. Wingmates included clutchmates C'wlin, E'sren and N'hax.
  • She doesn't know R'hin's name. Make that, didn't... and now he's her wingleader.
  • When Tela first took up working for Quinlys along with I'zech and J'vain, her junior class of weyrlings included A'rist, G'laer, Ghena, Klohi, L'sha, and Rh'mis.
  • Lilabet (not Lily!) is sweet. And... she actually wants to be a greenrider...?!

Telavi and Solith should be like this.

Soundtrack

  • Paul Simon - You Can Call Me Al - Sabs and Tela, from Sabella, most of it.
A man walks down the street, it's a street in a strange world
    He is a foreign man
He is surrounded by the sound
If you'll be my bodyguard, I can be your long-lost pal
I can call you Betty, and Betty, when you call me, you can call me Al

  • Paul Simon - Kodachrome - Solith, from Sabella again, most of it.
And though my lack of education hasn't hurt me none, I can read the writing on the wall
They give us the greens of summers, makes you think all the world's a sunny day

  • Ke$ha - "Die Young" - TeraBrite and (for Sabs) Wild West covers
Like it's the last night of our lives, we'll keep dancing till we die
Let's make the most of the night like we're gonna die young

  • Monique Blanchet - cover of "Catch My Breath" - Telavi to Solith - for now, just this part
I've spent most of my life riding waves, playing acrobat, shadowboxing the other half
    Catch my breath
No one can hold me back, I ain't got time for that

  • Christina Grimmie - cover of "Stay" - Solith to Tela, most of it
Something in the way you move makes me feel like I can't live without you
It takes me all the way, I want you to stay
It's not much of a life you're living, it's not just something you take-- it's given

Not strictly part of a soundtrack, this video of Telavi's PB shows a lot of the expressions she and Tela have in common. You can skip the bikini parts and just cut to 0:34 for geeking and 1:13 for weapons, with 0:10 on the side.
