Weyrlinghood was an interesting time for newly named Lys and Evyth. The young woman who had always felt a little out of place gradually found hers in being a dragonrider. Her lifemate became her best friend, someone whose stalwart faith, love and acceptance she could always depend on and it breathed a new life into once-bitter Lys. Though she still struggled with old habits and will never be a Very Nice Person like her dragon, close association with the green has rendered her a little more sensitive, though not without her edges and rough bits. She found herself enjoying Silver Threads, enjoying her stint as wingleader, enjoying her classmates, even (for the most part). She left weyrlinghood with new friends and a new sense of purpose. She was tapped into Equinox Wing shortly after graduation.

Lys (once Lycinea or Lya), rider of green Evyth at High Reaches Weyr

Arrived at the Weyr at the age of 6 (in turn 19) and was raised by the lower caverns folk (collectively).
Worked as a kitchen aid with a less than desirable attitude from turn 31/32 ish to turn 36 when Irianke made Lya her assistant.
Lycinea left the Weyr with Weyrwoman Irianke in M9 T37 after having been caved-in for 2 sevens.
Lycinea returned to the Weyr in late M10 T38 and resumed her position as one of Irianke's assistants, briefly, but stood for Niahvth and Roszadyth's clutches shortly after, Impressing Evyth in the latter M2 T39.
Lys was a hard-working weyrling who was tapped into Equinox Wing in M2 T40 after graduating from weyrlinghood.

Description

Blonde of hair and blue-green of eye, Lycinea's is a pretty face as these things go. Her features are symmetrical with a long nose, gently arched brows and full sweetheart lips. Smooth, pale peach skin holds a natural blush of pink in her cheeks. Often her eyes are outlined with dark kohl that sets off her light eyes. Her hair drapes down to the bottom of her rib cage when it's left free, though most often it's pulled back in some variety of intricate braids and frequently adorned with beads or small seashells. Her shoulders and frame are slender but not without curves of womanhood.

Her wardrobe is a wash of color. Largely choosing from muted shades for skirts and pants thick enough to suit High Reaches weather, the paler and lighter shades she chooses for blouses and sweaters contrast nicely. Boots are sturdy and have seen perhaps more than their fair share of miles in tread but well-cared for and still serviceable.

Pleasantly rotund with adorably large paws, this green is, nonetheless, sprightly and light on her matured limbs. She's colored a dew-touched spring green from the top of her head to the tip of her tail, even down to her toes with their ivory-gold talons; a subtle mottled patterning, slightly darker and reminiscent of paisley, winds in and around the softly curved ridges of her spine. That same patterning is found in the delicate lace-like sails of her wings, flowing from stalwart spars that stretch wider when unfurled than her length would imply, and repeats on the underside of her gently sloped neck. Her face is cherubic with its dished profile and rounded cheeks that convey a perpetually cheerful visage, but it's in her expressive, so often gently whirling eyes that true emotions can be found.

Death by Pink Egg

A faint flush of pink bedecks this egg's shell, creating a filmy, frilly backdrop that might be quite lovely, actually, if it weren't for the more garish shades that overwhelm the rest. It's as if someone took the pink and magnified it: not only frivolous polka dots in fuschia, but magenta fronds that curl their way up towards that pointed end, like an insidiously creeping nightmare. Towards the lower curve, so often tucked into the sand as if to hide it from the world, those pinks grow brighter still - blinding and brilliant, potentially terrifying in their vibrance.

The veneer of ruffles and frills start to crack, exposing a dark shadow within. Successive shakes deepen those cracks quickly, until an explosion sends a shower of pink shell confetti to rain onto those nearest to the egg -- and reveals a pleasantly rounded little green.

Effervescent Joys of Spring Green

Pleasantly rotund with adorably large paws, this young green is, nonetheless, sprightly and light on her short limbs. She's colored a dew-touched spring green from the top of her head to the tip of her tail, even down to her wiggly toes with their ivory-gold talons; a subtle mottled patterning, slightly darker and reminiscent of paisley, winds in and around the softly curved ridges of her spine. That same patterning is found in the delicate lace-like sails of her wings, flowing from stalwart spars that stretch wider when unfurled than her length would imply, and repeats on the underside of her gently sloped neck. Her face is cherubic with its dished profile and rounded cheeks that convey a perpetually cheerful visage, but it's in her expressive, so often exuberantly whirling eyes that true emotions can be found.

Temperament

Evyth is that first rosebud of spring, that first wild berry in the field. She's the sweet taste of a strawberry, as you bite into the warm ripened flush and feel the juice dribble down your lips to your chin and eventually down your arm to your elbow. She's effervescent, eternal youth embodied in dragon form.

In the first few days, Evyth will know nothing but her stomach. She'll eat, sleep, eat some more, and then sleep. In her dreams, you'll find a fascinating medley of her thoughts on her various siblings (kind), her thoughts on you (adoring and loyal), her parents (so so big), the food she's ingesting (I think I prefer the one today from the one yesterday), and the Weyr (the what?). After a sevenday, she'll start realizing there's a larger, much more vast world and she'll be ready to explore it with and through you.

She's apt to be unerringly loving to everyone and anything, the smallest vtol that lands on her nose tip to the largest dragon in the Weyr. Her positivity is enchanting and her spirit indomitable.

Except when it's not.

There will be times throughout her life when even Evyth's brightness won't be able to overcome and she will lean on you like the eternal companion and comrade you are for her. It may be difficult in those times to figure out how to wake someone so drowning in ennui, but for her, for the most part, these down in the dumps moods are momentary until she finds her off-we.

But those times won't often emerge until adulthood sets in. In youth, in weyrlinghood, Evyth will be a middling student, but do things with a verve that sometimes can make people think she's succeeding at a higher level. Her sunny disposition will make her a social companion for most of her fellow weyrlings. That even goes for those who might not be so inclined towards niceness; she isn't naturally skittish, and often will try and try again, showing deep sensitivity for the feelings of others and slowly growing into her own. This has echoes of the catalyst talent of her granddam, of learning how to best address many emotional situations. Even when she is not capable of brightening up someone's day, she might be able to figure out just who else will!

Needless to say, you are Evyth's home port, where she goes for comfort in a mutually reciprocating relationship. She'll burrow herself deep into your consciousness, and in return be the mountain of pillows at the end of the day for you to just sink back into. Companionable silence and that sense of absolute knowing will draw you two together. When you need to speak and unwind, she will listen intently, making the appropriate noises and thoughts to let you know she is, in fact, still there. For you, Evyth won't flare with the brightness she shows others; it'll be an intimate flicker, and rather than tell you what to do, or even advise, she'll listen. Listening is such a lost art and Evyth is born with the innate talent to do this for you and those dragons she is actually close to. When asked her opinion, from you or anyone, she will generally opt for truthfulness, unless it will hurt someone's feelings, and even then, if pushed absolutely to it, she will suggest the truth with great reluctance.

Part of Evyth's inability to be a great student is a streak of, well, physical clumsiness. She needs to grow into her round body and short limbs for one, but your dragon's not a simple klutz. Hers is a klutziness borne of the seeming inability to do both social interaction and physical movement at the same time. Sure, she can chatter Zaisyreth up almost coquettishly, but then if she's walking next to you while doing so, she might walk right into a wall. Or, there, let's see how Asaroth is doing, maybe today he needs a cheer up after failing to catch that herdbeast (it was moving quite fast that day), but watch out!, Evyth is suddenly chewing thoughtfully on the end of her tail tip, as it somehow fell in with her food.

Fortunately, these little quirks will diminish over time, the more quickly for your grace and the lessons you teach her -- until, sometime at the end of weyrlinghood, you'll realize you've gone an entire few sevens without a multitasking incident! Thank Faranth!

She's likely to admire Quarinth's great sense of adventure, and the absolute certainty Aidavanth shows in her chosen causes. Indeed, Evyth finds something to celebrate in each of her clutchmates, even those things she cannot-- or chooses not-- to understand. And for you, Lys? For you, she has nothing but joy. Every part of you is worth celebrating, Lys, because you are you.

She will be a late bloomer, not opting to rise as early as many of her siblings might, taking her time instead to grow into her feminine curves and all the sloping, lovely lines of her body. But when she comes into her own, so to speak, Evyth will own every pleasurable thought in her head and yours to boot. Your dreams in the sevenday's slow build towards her flight will increasingly grow sensual, though not necessarily erotic. She is one of those dragons who, once she finally finds the male for her, the one who feels in kind for her, will tend to be caught by him, finding the utmost satisfaction in this reciprocity.

Evyth's a graceful flier, often enjoying flying straight versus between, the better to enjoy the scenery... and feeling the wind rustle through her wingsails... and that sense of calm when she's away from the world with you, and only you. She may have some difficulty with others riding her, but when it means something to you, Evyth will keep her disquiet silent. She will enjoy sweeps; all that (mostly) uninterrupted time! Plus, the fact that what you're doing may help someone else? Surely there is no greater feeling than that. Drills are, frankly, less of her thing, but she likes the sense of belonging to something-- her wing. Her Weyr. Her world. It's likely she'll bond closely with at least some of her clutchmates, enjoying that continued sense of rightness even after graduation, when everyone begins to go their own ways.

In the end, Evyth is the best friend for life, the loyal companion, and your dearest who will give you absolute unconditional love, faith, and peace. Where you lead, she will follow.

Public Impression Message

Effervescent Joys of Spring Green is a last-minute flurry of movement and emotions, her joy at having found the one radiating in a loud broadcast towards dragonkind as well as her, that lovely blonde with the blue-green eyes. When, at last, she is standing before the woman, she just looks up, her expressively lit and brightly whirling eyes looking adoringly at her chosen.

Private Impression Message

You feel the joy before anything seems to make sense, this pure unadulterated emotion that seeks only you -- yet while you might want to move forward to help, to meet this being halfway, something in you is frozen in place. It starts in your fingers and toes, a warmth that reaches in to wash over every deeply obscured ache, soothing over them in a never-ending wave of rainbow love. « Are you there? Is this real? It must be real, right? » There's a nervous little giggle in your head, one that is soooo absolutely hopeful and threatens to brim over with joy. « Oh, Lys. Oooh, Lys! I am your Evyth and we are. »

Mindvoice

Her emotions often run first and then speech comes, so you will often get a whiff of what she's cooking up in that head of hers before she even understands enough to verbalize it, but verbalize it she will. Though she can paint pretty pictures to accompany her words, Evyth likes to speak and more importantly likes to listen to you. When she is in listening mode, irrelevant to the mood she might have been in before, an unintentional rainbow often ripples through her thoughts in a calming rotation.

Itchyspots

The area under her neck, where the subtle paisley-like patterning is, itches the most; that's followed by the skin where her talons meet her paws. She'll grow wide first and then up, and wide and then up, and then wide and up, and so her sides will need immense oiling every few sevendays until she's done.

Suggested Adult Desc

Pleasantly rotund with adorably large paws, this green is, nonetheless, sprightly and light on her matured limbs. She's colored a dew-touched spring green from the top of her head to the tip of her tail, even down to her toes with their ivory-gold talons; a subtle mottled patterning, slightly darker and reminiscent of paisley, winds in and around the softly curved ridges of her spine. Her face is cherubic with its dished profile and rounded cheeks that convey a perpetually cheerful visage, but it's in her expressive, so often gently whirling eyes that true emotions can be found.

Inspiration

How does Sookie St. James go BUMP in the night? When she gets up in the middle of the night to make a five-course spread for a friend in need, of course. Or, when she rattles about the kitchen trying to perfect her latest dish. For you, Lycinea, we've put together a dragon that will give you the unconditional love of a comrade and the loyalty Lya -- Lys -- needs.

Egg Inspiration: The bedrooms of little girls. You know the kind.

Clutch 129

Lycinea remembers little of her first six turns spent in Balen Hold, and the only thing she really knows is that she wasn't with her real parents there either. She wasn't a bad child, so she couldn't rightly say why the fostering arrangement didn't work out. The couple had been nice, she recalled, otherwise childless and a little old, but nice. When she was six, she was uprooted from the home she'd known and brought to the Weyr to be fostered. Later looking back, she thought it strange since so often children were sent from the Weyr to be fostered elsewhere, but it might have had to do with what she overheard someone say to her first fostermother, "Better that she be there, with her own kind." She assumed thanks to other clues, though couldn't be sure, that this meant bastard children, since those happen in Weyrs with less to-do than when it happens in a Hold.

Once at the Weyr, she became a part of the collective in the lower caverns. She was one of several children that were simply raise by the figurative village rather than any particular individuals. Never feeling quite like she belonged, she lacked many of the friends that most weyrbrats naturally come to have and made herself more the outsider than they tried to make her. She wasn't especially good at anything that she could tell. She could sing, but only alright. She could read and write, but she was no poet. She hated animals. She was too squeamish to thread a grub onto a fishing hook. She was alright with figures but hadn't the brain for anything so complex as star charts. The smell of tanning leather made her gag. She was downright lousy with a needle. And she hated alcohol. That pretty well made crafts not an option when she came of age and needed to start contributing to the Weyr in more ways than just chores.

The one thing she could do was boil water without burning it. She didn't have the passion of a baker, but she was a fair enough student where those things were concerned, and how much talent does it really take to peel a tuber? So at thirteen when her only real friend (Zalmai) was going off to become a woodcrafter, she started as a helper in the kitchens of High Reaches Weyr. In the three turns she's worked there since, she's proven herself competent, at least, for the most part. Enough that they'll keep her at work there. Her attitude leaves something to be desired according to the cooks, but then what can they really expect from a bastard with not enough brain to do anything better with her life?

Her attitude improved for some brief time after the Storm in Tillek of turn 36 that claimed weyrwoman Aishani's life among many others. The significance of that event had personal impact in the form of sending Lycinea searching for a more fulfilling career in the Weyr, one that she might've found with the hairdressers or the Harper's assistants.

That was before Irianke came along and turned Lycinea's life upside-down. Who knew that taking an interest in the kitchen aide as her assistant could change a life so dramatically? Lycinea proved to be a dedicated and competent assistant to the temporary transfer weyrwoman until she had the ill-luck to end up in the tunnels that collapsed, getting trapped with Keysi, Leova, Ghena and H'kon for two sevens before they were freed. Badly shaken, it became apparent that being in a place where there was so much stone overhead wasn't doing Lycinea any good.

She left the Weyr with Weyrwoman Irianke and Niahvth in early month 9, turn 37. Rumor got about that she'd gone to visit with Irianke's trading family. The rumor that it had been planned for only three or six months might have gotten not as far. The fact that Lycinea was gone for over a turn is probably only reason for tongues to wag in the wake of her return in late month 10, turn 38. Upon her return, she was quickly taken into Irianke's service once more, with the Weyrwoman's team of personal assistants and given a room (and a roommate). It's easy to see the blonde is different, and in more ways than just a better fashion sense and better grooming standards. She didn't last long as Irianke's assistant the second time 'round, accepting an offer to Stand from Rosvelth for first Niahvth's clutch (failing to Impress) and shortly after, Roszadyth's, where her lifemate, Effervescent Joys of Spring Green Evyth.
