C'wlin
D'kan
After the slightly rough end to the first month, the second has seen improvement. Kazavoth and D'kan had a conversation about was and wasn't cool while D'kan was sleeping. So far there have been no transgressions, as far as D'kan knows. The dragon's meal times have been hit and miss. If he's the first one at a fresh side o' beef, he's happy to tear into it without D'kan getting his hands dirty. If one of the others has already had first dibs, though, you'll likely see D'kan elbow deep with a blade, removing the remaining choice cuts. Otherwise, the pair has been keeping on the down low. Exams came and went. Their performance so far during the anatomy and ailment classes has been good, while D'kan's attention during his history classes could be better. Kazavoth thinks those are as important as the Harpers say they are, though, so perhaps things will get better.
During the month, D'kan was paired with G'mli, a brownrider from Snowdrift Wing. The two seem to get along well enough, though the mentor's most notable teaching seems to be which drinks are worth getting at the pub. Whatever he's doing, it must be working, though, as D'kan and Kazavoth have thus far been able to stay out of any further trouble.

E'sren
Weyrling exams are hard, mmk.
Even though E'sren has had a pretty sweet study partner, he's still struggling a little bit with the math and the history. Strong suits are writing/reading, grammar has become something he's good at, and he knows geography and is learning more and more about that. So overall his scores have been reflecting these things, but pretty much any moment not spent caring for Ahruth or eating, sleeping, exercising, is spent studying. Anytime anybody sees him outside of them taking their dinners together, he's off studying with Sabella somewhere, or holed up by himself reading out of some big scary book.

Regarding any rumors of weyrlings kissing each other or other people, if approached about any of it E'sren will expertly change the subject to anything else. How about that weather, right?
K'zin
Reading: B He understands pretty well.
Writing: B- The words are all there, but the composition of complex paragraphs is rusty.
Arithmetic: A+++ (You heard me, three +!)
Local/world history: Fail! He's alright on the stories of what's happened but the when and the where? He's miserable at it. And the geography bits? Forget it. He thinks you could leave Southern Boll on foot and end up in Benden by nightfall.
In the second month, K'zin's confusion and frustration seem to be abating. He and Rasavyth seem to be settling into a pattern of being together. More to come...

N'ky
It's no secret that N'ky was freaking out over the exams. Reading and writing aren't a problem, but maths? History? Eurgh. Lucky (or unlucky, depending on how you look at it) for him he's nearly back to his old sleeping habits, which meant extra hours in the nights before the placement tests to spend poring over stupid hides. Just ask him. They're all stupid - especially those ones with numbers. He's gladly taken help where he can get it, so if your weyrling would be the type to volunteer an hour or so of study time, maybe we can play it out!
The studying didn't pay off as well as he'd hoped it would in the end; he just scraped by in history, but arithmetic was a disaster and he's wound up with extra work in both subjects. He's kind of embarrassed by it, but he's trying hard to get better.
On a slightly sadder note, Cailluneth is no longer small enough for him to carry. N'ky's a little down about it but of course he's proud that she's growing up to be so big... in all senses of the word - Cailluneth is by no means svelte! Perhaps all that carrying about has added to her hatchling tubbiness, because she's certainly round.
Following Kazavoth's incident with the wherry, it's no secret that N'ky was caught by weyrwoman Azaylia, after having snuck Cailluneth into the weyr's lower caverns to let her hunt tunnelsnakes. Cai's been crowing proudly about her kills, though N'ky is sheepish about getting caught and is adhering to the rules even more strictly. (Azaylia and I are working through this scene on googledocs, I'll update this bit when we're finished!)
Oh, and he's also having lessons with Madilla - they're working on getting rid of his stutter.
Sabella
Sabella has been studying for these exams something hard. When she hasn't been holed up in the records with E'sren after dinner, she's been working on areas of difficulty by herself. And when the time came to take them, she didn't do so awful.
Reading: She's able to understand the written word relatively well. Though she may miss the subtle meanings in more complicated works and some words just aren't in her vocabulary.
Writing: Her handwriting is atrocious. And while it has gotten better since she stopped trying to write with the wrong hand, it has a way to go. Her grammar has improved with the additional studying, but it's obvious she'll need more help.
Arithmetic: Remarkably, the hairdresser seems to have a brain for math. Long equations, algebra, geometry, whatever. It doesn't seem to be something that presents her with a lot of difficulty.
Local/world history: Local history she exceeded in. World history? Ha. Not so much. Where is Benden? What happened at Fort Hold ten turns ago? Who was the Lord Holder then? Sabs has no idea.
In the beginning of Month 2, while other weyrlings were beginning to settle in more and get more sleep, she wasn't. A rash of nightmares disrupted her nights (and may have disrupted others too) for a period. Towards the end however, it seems to have been brought under control. And she's refrained from commenting much on it (or at all) except to a few close friends or when directly confronted. In every other way, she's been about the same or better. Even if her cheerfulness seems more tempered these days.
Ghislaith hasn't been anymore sociable with her clutch siblings. She's there to lend a listening ear, but they shouldn't expect much in the way of conversation. Not that many seem too keen on spending that much time with her anyway.
Telavi
Telavi is not a fan of exams. She doesn't like being evaluated, and it's not a secret that she doesn't really see the point once she's proved she's not illiterate. Her handwriting isn't bad, though it fails when she's in a hurry, and it's littered with abbreviations and run on sentences. Here's how her tests will probably fall out:
- Math will be her strong suit... to a point. Calculations, conversions, algebra and geometry, she can usually pull off in her head and quickly, too. (Even if she mentally translates it into figuring out fabric for a dress.) Anything beyond that, though, she's never learned.
- History will be her weak suit unless she gets in gear, and even then, how much can she learn in such a short time? She's approached K'zin and C'wlin, but they seem to be pretty much opposites in terms of knowledge and pretty much the same in terms of usefulness. She hasn't yet been convinced what the point is about this either (beyond just passing exams), especially since High Reaches seems to be changing everything anyway.
- Reading and writing are just fine for her in terms of understanding. Telavi can learn things through reading and can express her opinions through writing, and she knows her way around a persuasive argument. However, she isn't the best at gauging the right amount of details to use to support her assertions, especially if an answer seems obvious (she doesn't like to show her work in math either) which is related to how she has little to no sense of formal structure. Essentially, her writing is a matter of transcribing what she would say out loud.
- When it comes to geography, let's just say that Telavi can place the major Holds, Crafts and Weyrs on a map, and a few more in the Benden coverage area... but that's about it. What might not come across in examinations is that she also doesn't have the best sense of direction.
Solith is often off wandering around, doing her own thing, or else sleeping (or 'sleeping') in somebody's couch, not necessarily her own. She likes to pick up things and bring them home. However, while Telavi takes diligent care of her, the two just don't seem to be as close as a lot of other pairs.
