Description
Impeccable tailoring, the apparently artless arrangement of her dark, shoulder-length curly hair, a knowing, superior smile - none of these can truly escape the fact that Uillean's looks are of the girl-next-door variety, more inclined towards cuteness than the traditional attractiveness she seems to aspire towards. She is lovely, though, with that long, narrow face and its high cheekbones and narrowly pointed chin, those enormous green eyes; lovely, too, for her smiles and their dimples, somehow devastatingly inviting.

History
Wealth and privilege categorised Uillean's childhood, and the innate understanding that the blood in her veins was somehow better than that in those of other children, children whose grandmothers hadn't been the older sisters of Lord Holders. That her father's blood was of no account at all never particularly concerned the young Uillean, for he was a Master Weaver, a man of power in his own right, and she adored him.
Besides, she loved the story of how her parents got together: how they met at a gather when her mother was only sixteen, how they fell in love at first sight, how they fought the disapproval of her family to get married (and how her brother, Jacksin, was born so prematurely seven months later). It was a good story - the very best! Much more interesting than the arranged marriages of everyone else's parents.
As she grew older, however, Uillean became less certain of her position. Certainly, she was blooded, but... what good was it, truly, for her to be the great-granddaughter of a Lord Holder, even in a family as small as this one? It seemed, in the end, that you didn't just need to be blooded, but you needed to be /closely/ blooded. Yuliye was considered important - she was Aughan's niece. But Uillean and her brother, cousins-once-removed? They might all have played together as children, but it increasingly seemed as though they'd be abandoned as adults. Just not good enough.
Uillean had no intention of being abandoned. She had no intention of marrying a nobody, or ending up as a lady's maid to whomever Aughan ended up marrying. Increasingly, she wanted control of her own future, and it seemed to her that there was only one way to assure that: she would Apprentice, effectively putting herself out of everyone's reach. That she did so under her father, and was a treasured, cossetted Apprentice whose tasks were never especially onerous - well, was she supposed to just abandon all opportunities presented to her?
But she was good at her job, in reality, with an eye for fashion and her father's skill in design. She spent six months at the Hall at the end of her Apprenticeship, proving that her father hadn't exaggerated her progress; she walked the tables at twenty-one, perfectly appropriate for a woman who had Apprenticed at sixteen.
At first, she was posted under her father at Crom, which allowed her to keep all those things she was so used to having. Not that she intended to stay at Crom: she'd turned her gaze to Nabol, where there was plenty of Blood, but all of one family... where there might be /opportunities/ for a woman who didn't intend to remain a practicing crafter forever. But that posting never came, despite the influence of her father, despite her own best efforts. Instead, it seemed as though she was being deliberately posted to Holds with no marriage prospects at all, as, day by day, her marriageability faded away.
And then... and /then/, as if this hadn't been bad enough, she was posted to High Reaches Weyr at twenty-seven... surely, the beginning of the end.
