Faryn looks smug by default, at work or at rest, and that's what's easy to notice first. Narrow-faced with dark hair, sharp, interesting features and a smirk that has taken up permanent residence, it is easy to believe she might be enjoying a joke at the expense of whomever or whatever her dark eyes have seen fit to light upon at that particular moment. It can be galling, too, because at five-feet-four, she still somehow manages to carry herself with an air that suggests not only an ability to defend any enjoyment she might be having, but a willingness. Though slender and lean, weighing barely more than seven stone if anything over at all, she is tough at a glance, (over)confident in bearing, and ostensibly scrappy if the need arises.

More adverse to being wet than cold, Faryn's clothing choice is comfortable and practical. Her trousers are wherhide and tempered against the rain, snow and slush of winter. Her jacket, too, with thin spots at the elbows and lined with comfortable but plain wool at the collar and cuffs, is perfectly serviceable for her duties, accented only by the uncomplicated twist of her knot. She keeps her long hair plaited, an action that thins her face and sharpens her features considerably.

Faryn was born in Ista Weyr to then-Weyrsecond Fadra, rider of brown Sulizath. Although she spent her first two Turns at the weyr, in the care of various nursemaids and nannies, by the time she was four she was fostered in her mother's place of origin in Tillek, with her sailor father. She grew up working alongside him and her several half-siblings, and was put on a boat in her formative at the insistence of both her parents, an ordeal which ended abruptly when it became abundantly clear that she was unable to stomach being at sea for any long period of time, despite her best efforts. She was banished and landbound after that, where she dabbled among the master craftsmen of Tillek in an attempt to find her niche. Vintner failed her astoundingly, as did the Healerhall, and eventually it was the Beastcraft that took her in and helped her flourish.

Her formative years were spent in the Beasthall, where she was apprenticed with each of the crafters until it became clear her penchant would lie with the runners and other herdbeasts, a place that was doubly appropriate when she stopped growing at the extremely modest height of five-feet-four. This made her perfect jockey height, a fact that was lost on nobody.

==Summer's Dust and Desiccation Brown Sully==
 +
Enough might label him spindly, even bony; his dusty brown hide a sirocco-whipped chiaroscuro of parched straw, dusty umber pebbles, and eroding soil. Dry ravines wander aimlessly amidst the thirsty landscape of long limbs and tail, while deep-hidden moisture tinged hide slightly darker at long belly and narrow chest, deepening to fertile loam at protected creases and joints. This penury is relieved only when shorter, but wide wings are unfurled: a dappled smattering of early autumn's colors imprinting themselves amidst the withered curl of late-summer's dead leaves. Baked rust, old gold, burned copper: these surprising tones ride along bones, at joints, and re-awaken at trailing edges of his pinions. All these colors highlight and contrast the desiccation of body, the arbors of his wings giving shade and a promise of the rainy season sure to come. Only in the withered, dark mahogany of his claws - that coloration also found at very tips of neck ridges - can be seen the fiercest heat of the long summer that bore him.

*'''[[Quinlys]]''' Faryn only knows Quinlys distantly, half because of rumors regarding her outburst in the living caverns ([[Log:Quinlys_is_outspoken]]), and half because Quinlys asked her to stand shortly after that event. *'''Zadkiel'''  Where Faryn's distrust of Igen and their motivations are clear, it is odd that she seems to at least appreciate Zadkiel for what ''seems'' to be transparency. She doesn't outright hate the foreign candidate, indeed tolerates him better thus far than she initially did many of her peers, but she does seem to be waiting for him to slip up.

WYSK

Personal assistant to Farideh at High Reaches.
Former Sr. Apprentice Beastcrafter, resigned in Turn 38, after which the BCH banned Search.
Daughter of a somewhat notorious Istan weyrsecond.
Stood for Niahvth & Reisoth's clutch D25 M7 T37, and failed to Impress.
Keeps a spindly brown firelizard by the name of Sully Jr.
Bristly on the outside. And kind of on the inside, too.

In Brief

Weyrbred, Faryn lived in Ista Weyr with her weyrsecond mother until she was fostered in Tillek with her father and five half-brothers at the age of five. In Tillek, after several attempts with several crafts - including the Seacraft with her father, where her indomitable seasickness barred her from apprenticeship - she was finally admitted to the Beastcraft. Her time with the craft was tumultuous, but eventually landed her at the weyr, where she took to weyrlife quickly and well. Well enough, in fact, to be Searched - but fail to Impress. And well enough that, a turn after her failure, she left the craft entirely, to ensure herself another chance.

At Length

Pre-Weyr

Faryn was born in Ista Weyr to then-Weyrsecond Fadra, rider of brown Sulizath. Although she spent her first few Turns at the weyr, in the care of various nursemaids and nannies, by the time she was five she was fostered in her mother's place of origin in Tillek, with her sailor father. She grew up working alongside him and her several half-siblings, and was put on a boat early at the insistence of both her parents, an ordeal which ended abruptly when it became abundantly clear that she was unable to stomach being at sea for any long period of time, despite her best efforts. She was banished and landbound after that, where she dabbled among the master craftsmen of Tillek in an attempt to find her niche. Vintner failed her astoundingly, as did the Healerhall, and eventually it was the Beastcraft that took her in and helped her flourish.

Her formative years were spent in the Beasthall in Keroon, where she was apprenticed with each of the crafters until it became clear her talents would be best used with the runners and other herdbeasts, with whom she had a natural knack and unique rapport. Her assignment in the stables was doubly appropriate when she stopped growing at the extremely modest height of five-feet-four, making her the perfect jockey height, a fact that was lost on nobody, least of all Faryn. At fifteen, she began racing the runners with her peers, a thing she proved to have a talent for, and a hobby she indulged in frequently despite being told often to stop it right now. She never listened, and in fact did not stop racing until she was forced to, first by the Storm of Turn 36. Shortly after, she was posted to High Reaches Weyr as a senior apprentice, with the not-so-subtle suggestion that she would need to start focusing her behavior on productive points if she wanted to earn enough trust to remain in the craft and eventually walk the tables.

Turn 37 - Present

So, of course, in Turn 37, she Stood for a clutch instead, even despite progress made in both responsibility and maturity. Where Faryn took to her duties in the weyr well, with both due respect and exceeding capability, she nevertheless was eventually persuaded to Stand after being Searched, first by Quinlys' Olveraeth and then by K'zin and Rasavyth. And ultimately, she failed to Impress. Being left Standing left Faryn confused, with shaken confidence and very directionless. As her friends moved into weyrlinghood with their new lifemates, she remained a wildly spinning compass, unable to determine a path for her future, except the vagary of wanting to do something different, something useful and something better than her work in the stables.

The Fox - Niki & The Dove [X]
I've grown a handsome tall tree, mother
And I want to bear a fruit for you
And I've carried your fears and your hopes, father
It's so heavy on my back, oh you should know

Breathe Me - Sia [X]
Ouch, I have lost myself again
Lost myself and I am nowhere to be found
Yeah, I think that I might break
Lost myself again and I feel unsafe

Hemlock - Quiet Hounds [X]
I heard in the arching canyons, some birds lose their wings
so high from the greatest distance, no more will they sing
We'll stay with the broken hearted, stay here with our friends
Long gone are the righteous wonders, you and me in the end

Bravado - Lorde [X]
It's a switch flipped
It's a pill tipped back, it's a moon eclipsed, whoa
And I can tell you that when the lights come on
I'll be ready for this

Falling - HAIM [X]
Don't stop, no it's never enough I'll never look back, never give up
And if it gets rough, it's time to get rough
But now I'm falling, falling, falling
