Broad of shoulder, and strong of jaw, this young man of about 17 turns old still has traces of baby fat clinging to his otherwise muscular form. He stands about five foot, eleven inches tall and besides his rather remarkable bone structure, he's just another face in a crowd. Dusky tan skin covers his frame, topped by straight, dark chestnut locks. Though a few shorter locks flop haphazardly from the top of his broad brow, most of his hair is contained by a tan thong as it hangs down his back to reach the bottoms of his shoulder blades. Arched brows peak over evenly-set warm brown eyes. His nose is proportionate, though slightly aquiline. Thin but shapely pale pink lips almost always seem to wear the ghost of a smile, and a slight crinkle in his cheeks suggest hidden dimples.

Clearly dressed more for function than fashion, K'zin has donned a pair of khaki hide pants that look to be the kind lined with something more forgiving to bare skin. A pair of thick, worn, fur-lined brown wher-hide boots are on his feet. Warmth seems to be the aim of his torso attire, too. At least three layers can clearly be seen, starting with a grungy ecru undershirt peeking out from the opening in his grey shirt and topped with a brown vest. When outdoors, a fur-lined overcoat and red knit scarf, hat, and mittens is part of his standard attire.
+
K'zin's riding leathers fit in the way that only custom-made clothing does. The pants are black, the tunic beneath usually a slate blue, forest green, or khaki. The jacket is fur-lined and mostly black, but the shoulders are folded over with an extra layer of a supple tan. It's a stark but attractive contrast between the two colors. The stitching across the black jacket matches the tawnier colored leather at top. His boots, likewise, are black and look like they're still being broken in. If just coming from a flight, there's matching helmet, goggles, and gloves. On his shoulder is worn the knot of Assistant Weyrlingmaster with the badge of Flurry Wing at High Reaches Weyr, with a bronze loop to denote the color of his lifemate.

K'zin, once Wakizian - wah-KEY-zee-in, Impressed Alchemist's Prize Bronze Rasavyth on Day 1, Month 4, Turn 31. Formerly, Sr. Appy Smith posted to High Reaches Weyr (living there for about 9 turns). Waki (wah-KEY) is the class clown. Not a total goof-ball, but definitely one with a spirit of high-energy frivolity or playfulness and a dry and sometimes sarcastic sense of humor. Though far from anti-social, in his turns at High Reaches, he's spent far more time with the blacksmithing forge and bellows than the people living at the Weyr. Up to this point, he's been just another face in the crowd - another cog in the great wheel that makes the Weyr go 'round.

K'zin is a bronzerider with Tundra Wing at High Reaches Weyr. But everyone starts somewhere. K'zin began as Wakizian, a boy born to be a MineCrafter. He went his own way, though, at twelve and apprenticed to SmithCraft and stayed posted at the Weyr where he had a craftly mentor. High Reaches Weyr had becomes so much his home by the time that the was seventeen and preparing to take Journeyman exams (and fail, because he was seventeen and not a savant), that he decided he would do anything to stay. That anything proved to be asking for/accepting an offer to Stand for the clutch of Hraedhyth & brown Szadath's and Iesaryth & brown Arekoth. He Impressed Alchemist's Prize Bronze Rasavyth on Day 1, Month 4, Turn 31. He survived weyrlinghood and was tapped into Taiga Wing by Wingsecond K'del (much to his displeasure).

History
+
In theory, being in Taiga made K'zin close enough to K'del that K'del could mentor him into a good, solid bronzerider. In practice, K'zin never really fit with Taiga. K'zin was a competent enough wingrider and did his part until Rasavyth caught Isyath of Fort Weyr who just happened to be ridden by K'del's girlfriend. Under threat (and of his own volition), he went to Fort when the eggs arrived on the Sands to provide clutchsirely support. He did his best, but an untimely flight accident in Telgar resulted in a crash, severe injury and long recovery for Rasavyth causing the pair to miss the hatching (among other ill and long-reaching effects).

Born as the fifth son of Minecrafters Wakina and Zianarius, Wakizian’s destiny was clear from the start. Coming from a long line of salt-of-the-earth Minecrafters, there was no question where his life was heading. His baby years were spent with his journeywoman mother at Tillek Hold, and when he was old enough to get along without her, he was sent back to Minecraft Hall where his father, a master miner lived. There were two more siblings to come along behind him, and the family lived quite happily together once Wakina walked the tables to get her Master’s knot and receive a posting to the main hold with her husband a few turns after Wakizian moved back. He had an average childhood, with more than his fair share of pet rocks.
+
After roughly ten months of being grounded in Telgar, helping out with the weyrlings to earn his keep once the bronze pair was well enough to do so, Rasavyth returned home (against the advice of the Telgar dragonhealers) when Hraedhyth rose for her first seniorship flight. He was quickly forced out of the sky, but at least it made him home to complete his recovery. After returning home, it became apparent to anyone who cared to notice that his love life became fairly settled with officially-his-girlfriend, Telavi, and regular visits with a Telgari bronzerider by the name of T'volt. K'zin busied himself with helping Wingleader F'manis with paperwork until Rasavyth proved his injured wing and shoulder sky-worthy. After his return from Telgar and his unfortunate involvement with the death of Telgari weyrwoman Teris, he fit less with Taiga on the whole and began helping Quinlys and her assistants with the weyrlings informally with Iesaryth and Reisoth's clutch in turn 35.

When Wakizian turned eight, his parents were from the contingent of Minecrafters sent to help excavate and repair the High Reaches Weyr caverns after the meteor strike. There was more work than skilled hands to do it, so Wakizian began helping out with small tasks that a young boy was capable of doing. In the process, he met  Journeyman Smith Thraland who worked with his parents and became enthralled with the idea of making refined items out of the ore and rocks his parents were so fond of. In a great family scandal, Waki broke with tradition and leaped at the opportunity to apprentice to the Smithcraft as soon as he was old enough. Thankfully, his parents were soon after re-assigned once the new caverns were up and running, giving Wakizian the space and focus to train properly.
+
By the time Niahvth's eggs hatched in turn 37, K'zin had an assistant weyrlingmaster's knot (some say he got it because he searched Zadkiel from Igen after finding out about the dragon exchange deal with Igen). He served for the cycle before moving into Snowdrift Wing in month 8, turn 38 for the off-season, focusing largely on his SmithCrafting pursuits. In the end, it was those pursuits that saw him pursuing membership in Tundra Wing just after it was created in month 1, turn 39, inconveniently just before Niahvth's next clutch hatched. Some say he's not a great fit for Tundra, in the end, liking dragonriding too much to be a dedicated crafter, but he serves the Weyr he loves as best he can.

As changes in staffing of the Smiths at High Reaches began this turn, with new journeymen and apprentices coming in, Wakizian's apprehension about being sent elsewhere for longer than a season course (like the one during which he became friends with Nicky back at SmithCraft Hall) growing, the Senior Apprentice began to try to find ways to ensure that he was able to stay at High Reaches, his home. Healer Madilla who has long tended his boyhood scrapes and the aftermath of hammer mishaps, offered him the sage advice of just talking to his Journeyman and making sure Thraland was aware he wanted to stay at 'Reaches. Instead, he ended up having a chat with his childhood crush, Quinlys, who suggested he might like to Stand for the clutch. And to one who's not the brightest glow in the basket, the answer became clear: Stand, Impress, never have to leave 'Reaches again! If only life were so simple. And what about his Smithing? Didn't he sort of LOVE his craft?

Summary:  Wazan was still a child the last time K'zin saw him (barely ten turns old). He's begun to grow up into a bit of smart-ass with a temper, so his father wasn't as angry as he might otherwise have been (not after three children deviated from the preordained path of MineCrafting that the first four seemed happy enough to follow) when the lad apprenticed to the BeastCraft and headed off to the Hall. He's the baby, so he's much beloved by all, but there are far fewer headaches for them to deal with when he's at such a distance.

Month 1
+
K'zin: In the first few weeks, K'zin was mostly just confused. He was his usual good-humored self, but watching the other weyrlings interact with their dragons, he began to feel a bit left out simply because his lifemate is not very outwardly affectionate. So that paired with usual adjustment pains had him looking confused more often than not. He speaks little about his lifemate, sharing few personal details, which might seem a bit off since that's the topic du jour for so many. When asked, he'll say that Rasavyth is strong, intelligent, charming, and funny. The fact that Ras has been telling dirty jokes since his first seven is no secret. It's also no secret that K'zin won a hefty bet on his own Impression and Ras is planning on spending every mark of his now sizable (for a former senior apprentice) life savings on new clothes. His friendship with N'ky has been strained since hatching, improving on the 16th day of month 4.
+
Like the other weyrlings, K'zin is tired, and spends most of his time in the company of his new lifemate. They are often seen walking the bowl together, the bronze looking aristocratic, the boy looking thoughtful (or like his ears should be smoking)! K'zin is also quite strict about adhering to an exercise routine and has impressed upon Ras the importance of this, so they do it together, almost every day.
+

+
Rasavyth: Initial impressions of Rasavyth's mind will show a shimmery transparent ooze that quickly adapts to whatever sounds, smells, or textures presented by the other's mind. When speaking with a group, he tailors his interactions to all in turn. The only thing that sets his reflections apart from the original is a thin sheen of transparent oozy charm that fills in available gaps or sits upon the surface. His words are always clever, charming, and measured. His voice is a pleasant, purring tenor. There's almost always amusement whether open or veiled. He seems a very good-natured, friendly sort of fellow. There might be something about his touch that makes dragons a little uncomfortable, but it's not anything that can be named or readily identified, just something. Otherwise, he's everyone's friend, enjoys a good joke, and is quite polite. Physically, Rasavyth doesn't care for exercise or strain but does it because his lifemate insists. His oversized wings make him a bit clumsy and not the strongest or fastest of the weyrlings.
+

+
Month 2
+
It's exam time!!
+
Reading: B He understands pretty well.
+

+
Writing: B- The words are all there, but the composition of complex paragraphs is rusty.
+

+
Arithmetic: A+++ (You heard me, three +!)
+

+
Local/world history: Fail! He's alright on the stories of what's happened but the when and the where? He's miserable at it. And the geography bits? Forget it. He thinks you could leave Southern Boll on foot and end up in Benden by nightfall.
+

+
In the second month, K'zin's confusion and frustration seem to be abating. He and Rasavyth seem to be settling into a pattern of being together. The two are coming to an understanding and learning to work together. Rasavyth still does exercises only grudgingly, but K'zin has been spending extra time training as often as he can. He's not used to so much book work not paired with the hard labor of the forge. He's been getting to the forge when he can, and volunteering (with frowns from the
+

+
K'zin, like the others who are struggling with history, is studying hard, but also looking for better options. He's started recruiting people to work on a table top miniature trivia board game to help the weyrlings with their history (+bbpost 7/11). Other than studying, he's been seen to eat dinner with Sabella more often than not, and things are once more a little weird between K'zin and N'ky (since night of day 7, month 5).
+

+
Rasavyth has been showing more sides of himself. There's always charm, but he's had his moody moments, his playful ones, even his rarer cuddly ones. In evidence of their growing intimacy, K'zin has been spotted to nap with the bronze in Rasavyth's couch from time to time.
+

+
Month 3
+
It's been a doosie of a month for K'zin and Rasavyth. At the beginning of the month, everything was rolling along. They appeared to be the perfect little weyrling pair: doing their duties, dragging their feet just enough, getting excited just enough, following the ru... wait. No. Not that one. Some of the observant might have noticed K'zin having more than one drink when he oughtn't.
+

+
Then there was the incident. The one at the lake (Logs: Bathing Bedlam) on day 11. Everything seemed to change after that. He was in the infirmary two days and on light duty for another three until his various injuries (most notably his broken nose) had healed enough to get back into regular action. Rumor tells that he broke the rules and lost all his privileges indefinitely. He's been since seen keeping to only public areas or accompanied by one of the weyrlingmaster's dragons when he has to go off to do something on his own (most notably his extra hunting trips with the horrible hunter Rasavyth at lunchtime). He threw himself into all weyrlinghood has to offer with renewed vigor. He's almost never seen without a book or a good bit of sweat, spending his free hours studying or doing extra exercise. For a more complete look at this time period for K'zin, see Logs: A walk in the boots of a changed man. He's still working on that game in the training cavern as time allows, he's hoping for it to be ready by next month to help those in remedial classes test out.
+

+
One very notable change since day 11 is that Rasavyth has been his near-constant companion. Where other dragons were clingy at birth, Rasavyth never was. He's not particularly touchy-feely with his rider even now, but when K'zin is awake, they are almost always together, both actively engaged in the task at hand, whether it's studying or exercising or whatever else.
+

+
Rasavyth, for his part, has not been excelling with the physical tasks of being a dragon; almost as if those tasks don't come naturally to him the way so many mental things do. He does try quite hard, but in the mornings when all the weyrlings feed, he'll take advantage of the good hunters to scare up his own meal, hence the extra trips on his own to make him learn to do it all himself. With gliding, too, he's not been the best. He does steadily improve (in small ways) from session to session with the gliding, the hunting, it seems, is harder for him to make progress with.
+

+
Month 4
+
As K'zin's punishment went on, he followed the letter of the law (so to speak). He was never seen in a non-public area without an appropriate escort (except for this once in the Stores). He put real effort into everything: drills, lectures, exercises, remedial classes. He was almost never seen without a book. When he was seen with a book, he was almost never without his dragon. They studied together and largely isolated themselves from social exchanges. They were both still plenty friendly during drill and lecture, but in their free time, they kept to themselves, throwing themselves into the rigors of self-improvement. One might say that he avoided everyone equally, but truthfully, he avoided Sabella most of all and kept himself being alone with anyone, as much as possible.
+

+
Month 5
+
This month began much the same for K'zin. He kept his nose to the grindstone (or study book), avoided distraction and temptation but was surely the consummate professional when it came to weyrling duties. At the beginning of the month, he tested out of his remedial classes and found himself with time to spare. He approached Quinlys to ask for additional work to keep him busy and ended up asking about sitting in on the silver thread lectures/lessons. Since she said anyone could attend (not the Wingleader meetings or the special things, but the lectures), he started sitting in on them regularly. She also told him his punishment was complete, at last! (Logs: Leadership Potential)
+

+
The restoration of privileges and Sabella's accident, together, prompted him to pull his head out of his butt and stop avoiding everyone (Logs: If these were the last moments...). To his dismay, he had a lot of idiocy and hypocrisy to make up for (Logs: Apologies, Again.). As N'ky became more withdrawn, things between he and K'zin seemed to be at another low point. He kept up his hard work and added extra study time with the healers for first aid and anatomy to his roster of activities along with wrangling Craft apprentices to paint the back drops for Mave's play. He also has been vanishing at lunchtime a couple of times a seven, anyone following would lose him in the foot-traffic of the Inner Caverns at lunchtime.
+

+
A number of interesting events occurred that might be rumored of, including a confrontation with N'ky (Logs: Confrontation) paired with a trip to the healers (Logs: Bruise Balm) and a near-miss at being reported for rule-breaking (even though it only seemed that he was) by I'zech (in two parts: Logs: Shame and embarrassment and Logs: Boots of... doom?), gaining a mentee in the form of a Craft apprentice (Logs: Artistic License), and a secret sucky turnday (Logs: Happy Turnday to Me.
+

+
Month 6
+
K'zin had a lot going on during month six, both in personal and professional developments. He began to work extra hard in his weyrling duties (some might speculate it's because of the two bronzers in charge of the wing and the idea that what's good for one bronzer is good for all, since none had been picked for Silver Threads or leadership up to this point). Getting their weyrs was the hot topic at the beginning of the month. s a testament to how dedicated he's become to (at least giving the appearance of) following the rules, he quashed Alida's plans to go check out the weyrs beforehand (Logs: Quashing Quests). That same night, (after having gotten permission from Quinlys earlier), he re-proposed his first date with Azaylia (originally proposed on day 24, month 2 in Logs: Smiths N' 'Snakes, re-proposed on day 2, month 9 in Logs: Wherefore art thou, Azaylia?). That wasn't the only personal connection K'zin was strengthening though. He started to patch things up with N'ky (Logs: Not Mad). Some might have noticed extra smiles and a lot of companionable silences between he and Telavi (since the events of the baths, mid-month 8). He started to subtly steal moments with her before getting a weyr (Logs: No Grabbing) and more after.
+

+
He was quick to claim the first weyr that came along, but many have agreed that it, even with its unusual artistry, suits he and Rasavyth (Logs: Picky, Picky, Picky). The days that followed were busy. Alida and he were in and out of each others weyrs in the first days, deepening their friendship (Logs: A Diverse Discussion and Logs: Boundaries of Friendship). He finally went on his gratuitously sweet and romantic date with Azaylia (Logs: A Date To Remember) which prompted him to seek out K'del's fatherly advice (Logs: The Talk). Surprisingly (or perhaps not), when it came time to put K'del's advice into action, it was on the heels of receiving a pair of belated turnday presents, including his very own silver thread and it was Telavi who was the beneficiary (Logs: Belated Boons and Logs: At Least Solith is Spared).
+

+
His other friendships saw highs and lows, too. K'zin and N'ky improved things (Logs: Moonlit Reconciliation) and then they got worse again (Logs: Fixed yet broken), though at lest this time, the pair weren't avoiding each other or outwardly hostile, just very businesslike and a little uneasy. K'zin and C'wlin made casual headway towards establishing some kind of non-strictly-work-based friendship (Logs: The Discourse of Dragons and their Men). Not all things can be so easy, however. Things between K'zin and Sabella are still not the best (Logs: No Rainbows or Unicorns), but K'zin's trying to act normal.
+

+
Through it all, he's had to set aside some of his extracurriculars (lessons with the healers, paperwork lessons with Azaylia, extra Smithly projects), to focus on getting caught up to the other Silver Threaders. It has him pulling long days, and his overall performance has lagged a little. He's still doing well, it's just not as exemplary as before because he has more things on his plate. When quantity increases, quality suffers a small bit.
+

+
Month 7
+
K'zin has been busy! He's been doing well with duties this month, although a hair less gung-ho about everything (because he simply doesn't have the energy to spread around). He’s still friendly, to most. Some might notice that K'zin is particularly civil and professional with his interactions with E'sren and that whereas in past months he’s been over-eager in his interactions with Sabella, now he's just acting the normal kind of friendly (if busy).
+

+
K'zin didn't really get into the competitions set up, because it seems he's simply not a competitive person. He did his best, of course, but never had the competitive spirit some might have hoped for out of a bronzer. Rasavyth was an awesome cheerleader for the events, though seemingly never too disappointed with losses. He was seen doing some extra physical training with a couple of Cirrus members a handful of times. When asked, he would explain it's because they asked, and in the end, shouldn't they all win at life? They're all 'Reaches riders after all. All for one and all that.
+

+
His extracurricular activities have dropped down to only two. He still vanishes at lunchtime a couple times a seven and some (notably especially neighbor C'wlin) might notice that K'zin seems to get at least two or three (female, for the very observant) visitors a seven, often fairly late in the evening and some don’t stay for long. Dragons in a variety of colors seem to bring them, sometime their own, and sometimes just whichever dragon is on elevator duty. Some gossip from those on elevator duty tells that some of the visitors (especially the giggly, nervous sorts don’t have an invitation, but that they never seem to be turned away, though some do find him already asleep in various places in the weyr and ask to be taken back down to the bowl.
+

+
Month 8
+
Who knew one could be busier? K'zin didn't. For the first seven, its rough going as Sh'mel and K'zin try to find their rhythm. Maybe it was intentional the weyrlingmasters' part to choose a Cirrus greenrider who wasn't local born. What's more is that Sh'mel, who'd been a launderer at Telgar Hold before getting picked up not long before the eggs shelled, doesn't exactly seem to have leadership written all over him (or really on any of him). He's competent as a weyrling, of course, and was doing well in Cirrus, but is overwhelmed by having to lead a different wing. It doesn't help that leadership doesn't come naturally to the soft-spoken nineteen turn old. The roughness in the rhythm comes from Sh'mel not knowing how to approach leadership, not knowing K'zin or the wing, and K'zin waiting for Sh'mel to take the lead. Once Sh'mel sorts out (with self-resentment for it) that he needs K'zin, and makes stupid mistakes sometimes when he tries to stand on his own two feet, things become smoother. Well, a bit smoother.
+

+
By the middle of the first seven a few things have become clear: K'zin is wingsecond, which means he's fulfilling his role in making Sh'mel's job easier and supporting him, he and Rasavyth share the goals of safety, overall wing success, and providing Sh'mel with whatever support he needs to be successful. K'zin had previously been seen fraternizing with Cirrus, though not with Sh'mel in particular, and his full support to the greenrider seems to fall right in line with his cooperative, non-competitive agenda. Rasavyth, too, is very helpful to Tayabeth (and Sh'mel by extension). She's not a natural leader either, though more attentive than some greens. If Rasavyth is offering her advice, it's not seen overtly. K'zin is also the one sent after slackers who don't get up on time, as he's more familiar with the weyrlings in the wing. He's not mean about it, or mad, just very no-nonsense and professional. By the end of the first seven, the leaders will find their balance and they'll be doing their bests to help the others find it, too.
+

+
As for the firestone competition at the end of the month? K'zin is all about beat your own best, help everyone, and safety first. K'zin more than Sh'mel (who seems a touch introverted) makes himself available to any weyrlings struggling with anything. If it's not something he's good at, he'll still try, and try to find you another weyrling that does excel at whatever it is, and practice with you.
+

+
Extra exercises he frequently did with Azaylia and Alida or set aside. (This does have the effect of him being a liiiiiittle excited about the physical training done with the wing. So, expect that to be demanding unless it's pointed out to him that someone is having trouble with the rigorous expectations.) Contrary to previous months, he seems to have ceased all his personal extracurricular. There's only two things in his life this month: Flurry Wing and Silver Threads. Exceptions are certainly made for friends (no abandonment!) seeking to steal a few minutes with him. Though an occasional visitor might be seen coming to his ledge, there's been quiet instructions passed around those on elevator duty not to bring people to his weyr, and those that are anyway are met, spoken with on the ledge in hushed tones, and sent back down to the bowl - some looking none-too-pleased with the previously very friendly bronzer!

Miscellaneous Tidbits
+
K'zin
+

+
* K'zin never had the normal kinds of pets growing up. Coming from a fairly prolific family of MineCrafters, he had Pet Rocks; no one's ever explained to him that's not normal.
+
* Known by some but not most, K'zin has drawn just about every girl he's met since he was fourteen or so naked. He's a good artist, with sketches that look similar to this artist's skill level. He takes a familiar face and draws an approximation of what their body might look like based on their frame and women he's seen (not stared at) in the bathing caverns.
+
* Known (by a select few) turn offs (some of which creep him out): stuffed animals, waxy cheese, uncles in the bathes, weird toes, sleet, crying babies, and babydolls.
+

+
Rasavyth
+

+
* The bugs in Rasavyth's mind are drawn from Stargate's Replicators, learning about everything around them and incorporating that which makes them stronger/better/smarter into their make-up and mimicking things with an uncanny aptitude for detail.
+
* Rasavyth hasn't shown any of his original-concept tendencies toward betrayal. He is almost always friendly, inviting, and receptive. True, there is that niggling "something not right in the back of the mind but can't put your finger on it", but other than that, he's your average, friendly, chatty, clever, sympathetic dragon. He's prone to extremely subtle manipulations of others, but not things he could be linked to directly. Think of him like the sweet, kind uncle that's smart enough to give you advice but that you'd never want to be alone in a room with, even though you couldn't say why.

Relationships
+

+
*Aishani: "She's intelligent, mysterious, and occasionally intimidating. I don't know enough to play her games... yet."
+
*Alida: Friends at last! They're allies, though how they will help each other exactly remains to be seen. They're companionable and share a psychotic love of exercise and are oft seen working out together.
+
*Azaylia: He's found his stride with her, more or less. There are fewer miscommunications and more communication all 'round. She's giving him extra lessons every now and again about the art of doing paperwork.
+
*Barnabas: He loves the company of this guy. His dragon loves this guy's face. Sure, Telavi says talking to him is unsexy, but who cares? He's a fun guy to be around.
+
*C'wlin: Update pending! (Let's RP!)
+
*E'sren: He seems like a good dude. He smiles a lot.
+
*Hana: He's a little less convinced that she's a spy, but apparently thinks she stalks Azaylia and makes her eat (among other things).
+
*Madilla: Healer for all his hammer hurts; the perfect conversation partner. She gives him funny tummy butterflies sometimes but he doesn't know why.
+
*Mave: So simple and yet so complicated, both the girl and the relationship between them. He's her friend, but likes kissing her, but N'ky likes her, but Mave says she wants to kiss people which includes N'ky and K'zin both, and-- how does it work, the bros thing, when monogamy isn't sought by all parties?
+
*D'kan: Update pending! (Let's RP!)
+
*I'zech: K'zin's favorite AWLM! Not. He's not sure what to make of him. He doesn't like that he doesn't seem to care.
+
*Jo: So very intriguing. He has his most philosophical discussions with her. She's becoming his business manager (sort of), and he's interested to see if she wants to include him in her circle even though he's young.
+
*K'del: Faux-Pa. Confidant, mentor, friend. He doesn't know him well in anything but reputation, but there's much respect and admiration for him. He can't wait to go fishing with him.
+
*Leova: Has been transporting him to/from SmithCraft for turns. Known in passing since he was 12 turns old. He respects her, a lot. He can't wait to tell her about how he thought like she told him to, and wants to learn more dragonhealing stuff from her when he's allowed.
+
*N'ky: Things are more complicated than ever with N'ky. K'zin made mistakes and doesn't know how to fix them. Will their friendship survive? Will K'zin survive if it doesn't?
+
*Peregrine: Update pending! (Let's RP!)
+
*Quinlys: Childhood friend's older sister. She's definitely different than she was back when he had a crush on her. He's not sure about her politics, but respects her as a weyrlingmaster.
+
*Sabella: He dun messed things up with her. He wants to mend things with her, to at least be friends.
+
*Telavi: Talk about confusing! He's subtly paying her lots of attention, trying to figure her out through their day to day interactions.
+
*N'hax: Update pending! (Let's RP!)
+
*Vienne: Has great respect for Harper-Rider-Ma'am, easily unnerved by her way with words.
+
*Z'ian: He isn't yet sure what to make of him. He's interested in the possibilities with Boreal Wing once weyrlinghood is over (the same way he's interested to know about the possibilities with other wings.

PC vs. NPC-PC vs. NPC vs. Super-NPC!
+
(Hat tip to Telavi's player as all this came up when we were discussing NPC Civil Rights.)
+

+
In /most/ literature, film, anything-with-a-plot, there are primary characters, secondary characters and tertiary characters.
+

+
PC: The primary characters are what I tend to refer to as the heroes and villains. The people who's stories are the focus of the whole piece. (In the case of game, these are the PCs; they're the real movers and shakers, propelling the storylines.)
+

+
NPC-PCs: NPCs that basically are PCs just only brought on-camera for certain events and sometimes lacking a standard player.
+

+
NPC: The secondary characters are what I would call highlighted NPCs or henchmen-level characters. Characters with the same attributes as the heroes and villains only less important to the overall story (e.g. people with names but not a lot known about them, and generally used to enhance the reader's knowledge of the primary characters, used to show different sides of them or some of their history, and so on, but that we know less, as readers, of their individual stories; for example, K'zin's family, Sh'mel, the other NPC weyrlings).
+

+
Super-NPCs: The tertiary characters are everyone else. Those faceless, nameless drudges, caverns workers, the crowd in the living cavern, etc. The tertiary characters are used mainly to create atmosphere, to create particular dynamics (example: crowded LC created the opportunity for K'zin and Alida to have a meal with Aishani, something the characters might not have chosen if there were plenty of tables and chairs Logs: Southern Plots and More). Tertiary characters can at any time become secondary characters, and secondary characters can become primary characters, played as PC or as long-term NPC with their own story arc.

WYSK

K'zin Impressed bronze Rasavyth when he was 17 turns old in turn 31. Before that, he was a weyrbrat and Smith apprentice with a particular passion for forge work. He served in Taiga wing before becoming an AWLM. He stayed stints at Telgar Weyr and Fort Weyr in turn 34-35. Telavi is his long-time girlfriend, on and off since weyrlinghood and more settledly so since turn 35. After the last batch of weyrlings graduated, he's started riding with Snowdrift Wing, spending much of his time with the Weyr's Smiths.

Description

Broad of shoulder, and strong of jaw, this young man in his mid-twenties has a solidly muscular form. He stands just over six feet tall and besides his rather remarkable bone structure, he's just another face in a crowd.

Alchemist's Prize Bronze Rasavyth
Impressee K'zin
Hatching Date: 15 March, 2013
Day 1, Month 4, Turn 31
Current Age: 38 turns
Size: 35.5 feet
Dam: Conqueror of Worlds Gold Hraedhyth
Sire: Frost and Fisticuffs Brown Szadath
Lineage: Here
Clutch: Clutch:47
Egg Credit: Vienne
Dragon Credit: K'del (name tweak by H'kon)
Puppeteer: K'del

He's physically unimposing, this slight and slender bronze, the kind of dragon who could so easily have been outright skinny were it not for the natural arch of his neck and the tailored curve of his narrow body. The red-bronze of oxidized cinnabar sweeps across him: upon the aristrocratic bent of his long, sharp face and pointed chin, where he wears his distant lineage so distinctly; up and down each sculpted neckridge; and all the way to the tip of that tail that has such a tendency to probe and pace behind him. Except in flight, he wears his dark, dulled-bronze wings tight, furled like a cloak-- and yet, outstretched, his wingspan is impressive for his size, those wingsails abruptly lustrous as their deep sheen catches any available light.

Cheap Bauble Egg

There are those colors that aren't really colors at all but just ever-shifting plays of light. Such is the shell of one small, pale egg: not quite white, overlain with a silvery sheen that breaks into regular facets across its sides. From the base, a few yellowed fingers reach upward, crooked and uneven, as though to hold it in a shoddy pronged grasp.

The shoddy grasp of those finger-like patterns upon the Cheap Bauble Egg breaks with a snap, faceted patterns in their not-quite-white sheen sent scattering as the egg falls to pieces. The hatchling left behind draws his wings more closely about him, lifting his narrow head to regard the world with interest. So this is what's out here!

Alchemist's Prize Bronze

Temperament

A person might be forgiven for automatically assuming that Rasavyth is one of Iesaryth's progeny, for there's nothing in his outward appearance or charming personality that speaks at all of Hraedhyth or Szadath; he's controlled and composed, subtle, where they are anything but. And yet, one need only go back a single generation to see the links: icy Iovniath, ambitious Ysavaeth. He's the product of his lineage, but he's also a self-made dragon, learning the world from day one of his life. Learning how to win it.

And yet he's everyone's friend, at least on the surface. He's a fine listener (though you might find your mind overwhelmed with details you may not care to know, K'zin; you're his secret keeper, holder of all knowledge), the kind of dragon who can talk his way into (or out of) anything. He likes to gather friends and favors, anything that might be helpful, one day, as he plays his game of... what? Even you, K'zin, may struggle to understand. Let's face it: Rasavyth is smarter than you are. He won't be boastful about it, he won't rub it in... it's just one of those facts of life that he expects you to simply accept and understand. With others, however, he's less bothered: it may even seem at times as though he likes being underestimated, though his eventual quiet competence will certainly give away some of the game.

He'll still fumble as a weyrling, though. In fact, there is something about his childish self that will always seem somehow behind. He's not athletic-- he will likely grow into himself and be graceful, but his slight build and somewhat oversized wings make for an uneasy combination in the early days. He's liable to try and over-extend himself, physically and socially. It's not that he's the type to try and fly before he's ready, but rather that in his quest to prove how much better he is, to win, he's not necessarily able to pick his battles appropriately. He is inclined to learn from his mistakes, though: once he knows that Jhorinth is simply larger and stronger, he's unlikely to challenge him to a race a second time... at least, not a straightaway. Indeed, it's these lessons that will likely push him into more underhanded, sly means of getting what he wants. Sadly, he'll also take lessons in other ways: how to (subtly, so very subtly) provoke Cailluneth's temper, how to bewilder Athimeroth.

As he grows more conscious of his strengths and weaknesses, Rasavyth's interests will shift. He acknowledges the need for drills and formalized lessons, but finds them dreary-- a waste of time, for him, when he could be doing so much more (what, exactly, he's not sure-- he just knows that there's something). He'll find the interest that others (such as Isicath) take in these things quietly bemusing; at times, he won't be able to help a snide remark, nice on the surface and yet, beneath... His words, so outwardly benign, can often hold a sharp sting. Should you get the chance to lead the weyrling wing, he'll enjoy that rather more: it's the perfect opportunity to show how useful he can be, so much more efficient, focused and creative than so many others. His weyrlingmasters will likely see him as a 'good kid,' as it were, but there's just something about him. It's not that he's a troublemaker, even, despite the way he likes to sneak out at night, and talk when he's supposed to be sleeping, and make those covetous glances towards the belongings of others (especially Kazavoth's, whose interest in nice things he does tend to share)... it's just something.

As the borders of his world expand, Rasavyth will begin to feel them out, learning the dynamics and politics of the Weyr into which he has been born. You, K'zin, are the first of his pawns: a pair of listening ears, and (to his mind, affectionately intended) outwardly harmless. He will be fascinated by the precarious political situation, and will likely fix his mind upon the weyrleadership from a young age. Should the next queen to rise do so while he is still a weyrling, don't be surprised if he throws himself into the mix-- a miscalculation, perhaps, but one he takes absolutely seriously. In this, he and Athimeroth are similar, although unlike the larger bronze, he will become steadily more cautious of revealing his plans.

Once he's awakened to the world of greens and golds, expect Rasavyth to chase often: there's something about the physical and even emotional release of it that appeals to him, for when he loses he's still gotten a chance to vent some of his pent-up steam for the female and against the males, and when he does win, it's even better. Unlike some bronzes, he enjoys green flights and can be expected to participate in them on a relatively regular basis, though he's inclined toward a more love-them-and-leave-them attitude (with rare exceptions) if he catches them. Greens are a outlet, a chance to hone his skills without pressure (and should he say or even imply as much to them, he's likely to be surprised by the intensity of the reactions he might receive). Golds, however, are something more-- even junior queens are a stepping stone towards power, and a way to remind the Weyr of his prowess and potential. He'll be a dutiful, if distant, mate should he catch... though should he ever sire a queen, he'll be as unrestrainedly pleased as perhaps he's ever been. His failures he will be inclined to brood over for as long as he remembers them - though thankfully, that is never terribly long.

As a wingrider, Rasavyth will take no real joy in traditional duties. Drills are tedious, and underuse his talents, and the only good thing about sweeps is that they give him plenty of thinking time-- and, very occasionally, a piece of information here and there. He will, however, do his best to be indispensable to his wingleader, whether it be by mentoring newer additions to the wing, being seen to cater to trusting oldsters, or even subtly making sure everyone shows up on time. As he gets older, he will become increasingly ruthless: genial to one's face, ready and willing to use them behind their back, heedless of the consequences for them. You may, in time, learn ways to redirect his darker intentions, but it will take enormous strength of will and character. He'll be surprised, but peculiarly pleased, if you manage it: « Why, K'zin, I do believe you're learning. »

He'll push you towards obtaining rank: Wingsecond, Wingleader, perhaps even Assistant Weyrlingmaster if nothing else is forthcoming. He has his eye on the big job, of course, but he's willing to wait-- he is patient. This is the long game, the one that will be played for the rest of your lives. In the meantime, there's work to be done. He's detail-oriented: the way you cut your hair will matter, as will the clothes you wear. His straps. The oil you use on him. Where your weyr is located. How you decorate it. Who you consort with. Especially who you consort with... and how you do so. Do you enjoy being yelled at like a small child? He'll do it, if he feels he must: if he's sure the person you're talking to is leading you astray, or worse, distracting you from his eventual goals.

He does love you. He's overwhelming, difficult, astoundingly clever, and utterly ruthless, and he loves and cares about almost no one-- except for you. He chose you, remember, and even if it can be hard going sometimes, there will also be those other times when it's just the pair of you, making tasteless jokes at each other or just shooting the breeze. Together, you can see the world (he'll like that... as much as he likes anything).

Public Impression Message

Watching, waiting, the Alchemist's Prize Bronze probes at the sand in front of him with one foot, testing his balance - and the placement of his wings - before he's willing to actually make another move. Behind him, his tail twitches, shifting this way and that, and abruptly sending him turning off into a different direction. One step, two, a third, and then? He tilts his head up, seeking out the warm brown eyes of a (now former) Smith. His.

Private Impression Message

It starts with a tremor in your hands, and then a burning itch that spreads up your arms. There's a strange, metallic taste on your tongue, and you're dizzy - is it euphoria? Delirium? Quicksilver oozes over you (a hallucination?), sending prickles across your skin, and through your heart which, abruptly, begins to beat in time with another. In all this confusion, only one thing is definite (or is it?): Rasavyth has found you, now. He's fixed those incisive eyes upon you, and stares up with absolute certainty. « You're mine, K'zin, » he says, in a voice that is low and clear, a balm to the confusion of this moment, clearing it all away to leave you with only this. « For always. »

Mindvoice

There's something terribly measured and precise about Rasavyth's mindvoice: he tends to pick each word very, very carefully, and say them with a faint edge of humor that may lead some people to believe he's mocking them... even when he's not (though he often is). He's restrained in his mental imagery, preferring to hold it back for moments of intensity, all the better to shock another into submission (with a spark) or simply ooze into their peripheral thoughts, like beautiful, dangerous quicksilver. He has a surprising talent for mimicry, and has a habit of picking up the imagery favored by his peers, all the better to make them feel quite at home, and perfectly comfortable.

Itchyspots

With his compact, narrow build, Rasavyth will never be the largest of bronzes, but he still has plenty of growing to do, and as his body expands, so too will his itches. Like his dam, and her dam before her (so there is some family resemblance, after all!), he'll itch about the headknobs; like that granddam, he'll also itch at the base of each talon, where his hide seems terribly prone to drying up and pulling away. He's largely too dignified to squirm (much), but do expect to feel his dismay, steadily growing, should those itches go unattended.

Inspiration

Rasavyth's 'element' is quicksilver, also known as mercury (Atomic number 80 and Hg on the periodic table) - and the only metal that is liquid at a standard temperature. It's pretty, and was once believed, by alchemists, to be the 'first metal' from which all others were formed. It's also poisonous, especially with prolonged contact, all of which works rather nicely with his inspiration of Petyr 'Littlefinger' Baelish from G. R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. Littlefinger is ruthless, charismatic, determined, and utterly devious... and we couldn't think of anything more perfect for K'zin. His name comes the Sanskrit word for alchemy, 'Rasavatam', which translates directly to 'the way of mercury'.

Egg Inspiration: Zirconium, which makes me think of cubic zirconia, costume jewelry and possibly old ladies.

Clutch 47

K'zin has five brothers and one sister. He has one mother, one deceased father, aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews. To find more details on his family, opt to Read More.
