Located in the low mountains west of Telgar Hold, it was originally beholden to Telgar Weyr, but due to circumstances within the late ninth Interval, it came under High Reaches Weyr's coverage area. During the Comet Pass of the tenth Interval, the then Reachian Weyrleader, R'hin, attempted to stronghold the Hold into shutting down some of the fast-growing expansions of its mining operations and was met with resistance. In efforts to keep his satellite mineholds open, the Lord Holder played Telgar against High Reaches, harking back to the long-forgotten original coverage lines. In the end, Crom Hold remained under High Reaches Weyr's jurisdiction while the satellite mineholds and the Minecraft fell under Telgar's protection. Tithes from this region are split equitably with representatives from both Weyrs present before the tithe trains depart.

Relations between High Reaches Weyr and Crom have been strained for some time now, commencing with arguments over coverage areas, and continuing with a land deal gone wrong.

As of Month 10, Turn 33, Aughan has finally married - Ienavi, formerly Lady Nabol. They now have two children including Aughan's acknowledge heir, Javrix.

    • Wife: Ienavi - formerly Lady Nabol, mother of Ustelan's final child, Eustan.
    • Niece: Yuliye - once considered likely to be named Aughan's heir, though this is no longer considered since his marriage and the birth of his children. It's not presently known whether she is still married to Braeden of High Reaches Hold; she has, after all, recently given birth to Joremy of Igen's son.

Hooks

Aughan's known as a good Lord to his people; he'll advocate for them above and beyond any other concern. Much of the area is pleased to see him married and with an heir of his own, at last; it's a sign of stability, and that's a good thing. There's less firestone required, these days, which is one of the hold's bigger exports traditionally, but new farmholds are also being carved out of the sometimes-rocky terrain. Meanwhile, criminal activity out in the holds continues, most especially with the quiet-but-effective Greenfields crew.

Some potential concepts:

  • Mined out: If mining firestone is all you've ever known, what now, with demand dropping? Perhaps it's time to try for a new life... and at least Weyrs still have some use for the stuff.
