Taikrin
Description
There is something perpetually sullen about the set of this young women's pale face, an impression that lingers regardless of her actual expression. Perhaps it is the lips, thin and with a naturally downward cast. Perhaps it is the eyes, slightly narrowed, in an inexpressive shade of flat brown. It could be in the way overly thick brown brows meet, pointing together harshly over an otherwise unremarkable nose. Her haircut certainly contributes: the dark brown stands have been sheared short rather severely in a boy-cut that's no longer than a few inches. Most tellingly, however, are the lines of scars -- some pink, and some long-healed white -- that trace over her work-hardened hands and lower arms, and even a few across her right cheek and into her hairline.
Well-worn and comfortable seems to be the defining characteristics of Taikrin's clothes. A dark grey shirt, somewhat overlarge on her thin frame, is coupled on the cooler days with a rather frayed dark yellow cable-knit sweater. Equally dark pants, which might have once been black, are tucked into serviceable workboots. The loose fit goes a small way towards de-emphasizing feminine curves, while not going nearly far enough in hiding the bulk of muscles across her shoulders, upper arms, and thighs that are the opposite of girly.On her shoulder, Taikrin wears the simple knot of a rider High Reaches Weyr, threaded with a ribbon of pale brown.
WYSK
- Born into a from a relatively poor mining family in the Crom area, eldest of three girls. Her father was injured and eventually passed away following a mining accident.
- Began helping around the mines at the age of 8, and working full-bore there by age 12. Kicked out of the minehold upon reaching her majority at 16 for being a thief, dirty scrapper, and general malcontent.
- Worked odd jobs in Greenfields, including work as a hired tough. At 19, she was caught pilfering from a smithcraft booth at a gather. The resulting brawl and property damage caused her to be sentenced to 24 months of hard labour back in the Crom mines.
- Assigned to High Reaches Weyr for the last three months of her sentence to assist in the repairs to the Weyr bowl. Official release day was Day 1, Month 3, Turn 22.
- Searched by W'chek, and impressed brown Szadath from Iovniath and Cadejoth's second clutch on Day 13, Month 4, Turn 22.
- Graduated into Glacier Wing in Turn 23.
- Szadath caught clutchmate Iskiveth at the end of Turn 23. He was never quite the same.
- Participated in the near-disastrous goldflight / fight at Fort Weyr in early Turn 25 (Logs:At_Fort)
- Helped discover the exiles in Turn 25, including her future-girlfriend Riorde
- Szadath caught his half-sibling Hraedhyth at the end of Turn 30, making Taikrin a candidate for Weyrleader along with H'kon
- Took over leadership of Glacier Wing from F'rint at the very end of Turn 30.
History
Long and sordid.
Relationships
There are precious few (reasonably) young and (reasonably) attractive women at the Weyr whom Taikrin has not made a pass at. She's especially fond of greenriders, given Szadath's predilections. That said, she rarely forms last attachments with any of these conquests. A few exceptions from the above:
- Teris: Ever since the weyrwoman did her a good turn while they were weyrlings, she's held Taikrin's loyalty. Probably Taikrin's most straightforward and healthy friendship-- even if it does involve the occasional flight-prompted inappropriateness.
- Saliqa: Confusing Taikrin since Turn 22! She doesn't entirely know what she should be doing with her on-again off-again best friend (though she certainly knows what she would /like/ to be doing...)
- Riorde: Taikrin's long-term exile girlfriend. Occasionally rocky, and occasionally unhealthy, nevertheless they've managed not to murder each other.
