Description
Dark, short and a natural, spiky mess, Kaeden's hair is the color of ink. His head is somewhat narrow, with high cheekbones and a strong jaw usually darkened with short stubble. He has pale lips, a small nose, and dark brown eyes, and lightly tanned, olive-toned skin. With a neck that shows as much tone as the rest of his body, it leads to broadening shoulders and a chest likely to lean more toward brawny as he matures. A black long-sleeved shirt with small dark buttons and a simple black collar is usually left open and does little to hide his chest and the spattering of hair that lie beneath. Depending on the circumstances, it may hide from view his slender, corded arms, bony wrists and his strong hands with their long, calloused fingers. Kaeden's chest narrows to lightly defined abs, ending in slender hips. Tightly fitting trousers of dark, natural brown wherhide outline lanky limbs defined with a runner's developing muscles, while crisscrossed stitching adds a pleasant line to the outsides of each leg. They serve as much for function as for aesthetics, the thick hide offering both protection from the elements and from minor scrapes and bruises. His trousers tuck neatly into calf-high boots of supple black leather that have seen quite a bit of use. While still young, Kaeden is clearly on the verge of leaving the last vestiges of childhood behind.
WYSK
- Kaeden is a dock worker from High Reaches Hold.
- He came to the Weyr sometime shortly before Turnover, Turn 30, ostensibly to ensure some precious cargo made it safely from the Hold to the Weyr.
- He was asked by Azaylia to Stand for the combined clutches of Hraedhyth and Iesaryth. (D7 M1 T31 I10)
History
Kaeden has spent all his life around High Reaches Hold. He's the only son of... no one important, really. His mother works in the laundry, his father is just a general handyman/worker. Not quite drudge levels, but not all that far above, either. As Kaeden got older, he started to develop into a fairly outgoing kid. He had no issues talking to perfect strangers, but more than that, he had a knack for getting perfect strangers to talk to him. He also found that his parents' work was beyond dull, so he started reaching out for something more interesting.
When Kaeden was a young teen, he started working on the Hold's docks. At first, he simply helped load and unload the ships and wagons as needed, but as he became more familiar with the work, he started helping out in some of the administrative tasks, too, like coordinating schedules, working with trader caravans, and organizing work crews. By the time he'd reached his later teens, he wasn't exactly second-in-command of the docks, but he was definitely becoming someone the dockmaster started to look to when something needed to be not just done, but done correctly and quickly.
Relationships
- Alida: Anti-social one minute, getting into it with her fists the next. I'm never sure what to make of her, or if I should even try. She doesn't seem to want anyone to try, and that's disturbing on some level. At the same time, I don't know her history, so I'm trying to keep an open mind.
- Azaylia: Sweet woman, but I get the feeling she might be a little overwhelmed by her current lot in life, not to mention the political situation. I wish she'd either step down and let Brieli take over, or give Brieli a reason to step down instead. Don't know her well enough to figure which would be better.
- Brieli: Capable and ambitious, she seems to want the job far more than Azaylia, and she seems to have started to make that happen. There's a darkness in Brieli's undercurrents, but I'm not sure if that would make her want to succeed, or lead her to failure. Pretty high stakes. I just wish they'd figure out something.
- Ceawlin: Hard to read in some ways, and yet he's an open book if you know how to look. He's passionate about his Craft. Almost too passionate. It makes me question his motives for wearing the white knot instead of the Harper blue.
- H'kon: Met him once so far. Had definite "fuck off" vibes, and I'm happy to oblige. Can't possibly want the job for real, can he?
- Hana: I grew up with Hana back at High Reaches Hold. We learned to dance together as kids, then went our separate ways when it came time to start working for our keep. If there's a toss dance, and she's there, I'm in. It's been really nice to have a familiar face around sometimes drastically unfamiliar environments.
- Leova: I've only had a little contact with this rider, but she seems easy to be around. Her dragon, not so much. If things don't work out once the eggs hatch, I just might come talk to her about training, which has been on my mind more and more lately.
- Nicky: I am continually amazed at how sheltered this kid is. I know there are some pretty tiny cotholds out there and stuff, and maybe he came from one of those, but even then... is it some form of denial? I can't figure out if he's abnormally modest or just cracked. Despite all that, he's pretty easy to be around, and he's managed to show some backbone from time to time. There's hope.
- Quinlys: I haven't had a whole lot of interaction with her, but first impressions have been favorable. She seems suited to her position, both in the Weyr and in life.
- Taikrin: I've had very little contact with her, but Brieli's spoken up for her. I guess that's something, right? People are all up in arms over her being female. Big deal. A lot of people are female.
- Tiziano: Total nut job, but that's not always a bad thing.
- Wakizian: One of the easiest of the candidates to be around, he helps keep things from getting too serious. I like his sense of humor.
- Xhaeon: Another easy guy to get along with. It's hard to remember he's a candidate sometimes, because he just acts like a normal guy. Hard to be a candidate and normal at the same time.
