Description
Raven black hair and eyes nearly as dark stand out against Kaeden's medium skin tones. He normally keeps his thick hair cut close, but when it gets a little long, it starts to take on a full and messy look. His high cheekbones lend to the almond shape of his eyes and can occasionally give his cheeks a slightly gaunt look. His slightly pointed chin and wide mouth give his face a mildly inverted triangle shape. A narrow and slightly upturned nose combine with small ears to give the young man a slightly impish cast, especially when he smiles.
Kaeden's height seems to have settled just shy of six feet. He might have started out lanky, but he's started to fill out in recent turns, aided in development and toning by good old-fashioned manual labor, also evidenced in the thick callouses on his hands. His shoulders have started to take on a broad, rounded look, but the rest of his frame has remained long and lean.
WYSK
- D'kan started as Kaeden, a dock worker from High Reaches Hold.
- He came to the Weyr sometime shortly before Turnover, Turn 30, ostensibly to ensure some precious cargo made it safely from the Hold to the Weyr.
- He was asked by Azaylia to Stand for the combined clutches of Hraedhyth and Iesaryth. (D7 M1 T31 I10)
- D'kan impressed to Empires And Excess Brown Kazavoth of High Reaches Weyr. (D1 M4 T31 I10)
History
Kaeden spent all his life around High Reaches Hold, right up until he left for the Weyr. He is an only child of a fairly nondescript set of parents. His mother works in the laundry, his father is just a general handyman/worker. Not quite drudge levels, but not all that far above, either. As Kaeden got older, he started to develop into a fairly outgoing kid. He had no issues talking to perfect strangers, but more than that, he had a knack for getting perfect strangers to talk to him. He also found that his parents' work was beyond dull, so he started reaching out for something more interesting.
When Kaeden was a young teen, he started working on the Hold's docks. At first, he simply helped load and unload the ships and wagons as needed, but as he became more familiar with the work, he started helping out in some of the administrative tasks, too, like coordinating schedules, working with trader caravans, and organizing work crews. By the time he'd reached his later teens, he wasn't exactly second-in-command of the docks, but he was definitely becoming someone the dockmaster started to look to when something needed to be not just done, but done correctly and quickly.
When the divided leadership issues began to develop up at the Weyr, Kaeden's boss asked him to go... check it out, to put it nicely -- spy, less so. Itching for a change of pace (not to mention something to do that felt important), Kaeden went, arriving just in time for the Turnover party at the end of Turn 30. His cover story was that he'd come along with a shipment to see to its safety personally, then he just happened to stay for the party. Afterward, he was dragging his feet about finding a way back to the Hold when Azaylia asked him to stand. Well, he couldn't say no to that, now could he?
Just under three months later, Kazavoth found him near the end of the hatching. The rest of the story is still developing.
Relationships
- Aishani: Shells, I get it, people. She lied about who she is. She lied about a name. There are tons of people around here who've lied about worse, and no one's trying to get at them with flamethrowers. I want to see how this pans out, but so far she's been good to me. Good for me. That means more than a sharding name.
- Alida: For instance, ever heard of lies of omission? Yeah, this one right here. What's she so sharding afraid of? And now she's a weyrling with me. Awesome. Guess what, two assholes don't make a right.
- Azaylia: Sweet woman, but I get the feeling she might be a little overwhelmed by her current lot in life, not to mention the political situation. One thing I can't forget is that she put me where I am today. Need to remember to thank her someday.
- C'wlin: BWAHAHAHA. Sorry, couldn't resist. Man, this kid is setting himself up for one massive fall. Is it bad that I can't wait to see it happen? It's not that I don't like the guy! In fact, I find him pretty easy to hang out with. But man, you reap what you sow. Watch out. I do feel kind of bad for him that his Harper plans are on hold now, if not totally disappearing.
- Hana: I grew up with Hana back at High Reaches Hold. We learned to dance together as kids, then went our separate ways when it came time to start working for our keep. If there's a toss dance, and she's there, I'm in. It's been really nice to have a familiar face around sometimes drastically unfamiliar environments.
- K'del: At first, he seemed all right, but this stuff with a pendant and... man. You just can't jump to conclusions that severe while going on so little. Even if the other guy's guilty, you don't have to be a Harper to know you need more than that. I'm disappointed, but torn. Could have been handled better, and he's supposed to be a leader.
- Leova: I've only had a little contact with this rider, but she seems easy to be around. Her dragon, not so much. If things don't work out once the eggs hatch, I just might come talk to her about training, which has been on my mind more and more lately.
- N'hax: Jhorinth picked a freaking hilarious name for this guy. It's nice to know Kazavoth isn't the only dragon who decided to shake our names around like a jar of dice. I'm pretty pleased the guy impressed. It's nice having someone around who's a little more mature. Like, if I ever run into some serious trouble, I think I could go to him and have a real discussion about it, which is a nice feeling.
- N'ky: I am continually amazed at how sheltered this kid is. I know there are some pretty tiny cotholds out there and stuff, and maybe he came from one of those, but even then... is it some form of denial? I can't figure out if he's abnormally modest or just cracked. Despite all that, he's pretty easy to be around, and he's managed to show some backbone from time to time. There's hope.
- Taikrin: I've had very little contact with her, but Brieli's spoken up for her. I guess that's something, right? People are all up in arms over her being female. Big deal. A lot of people are female.
