For those on the island:
Devaki is Blooded. He was also one of the more outspoken about not forgetting their history, and their exile. He was known to be very familiar with the ancestry of the Bloods, and it was known that the elders often approached him before approving a match, to determine how closely related potential matches might be. This used to be a task his father would perform, before he died during the erratic threadfalls.
In terms of his contribution to the islands, Devaki was one of the regular fishers. He also served as a kind of counsellor, often spending time talking to people in confidence. He was one of the few who knew the cave system very, very well -- though that's not common knowledge.
Devaki's grandfather, Viremi, though mostly retired in his role as a mindhealer, still served on the council of elders.
During the rescue, his sister Kiami died of sickness, and his grandfather Viremi remained in the infimary for some time, weakened and ill, before finally sucumbing early in the winter of Turn 29.
For those from the mainland:
Both Devaki's parents are dead, though he has two younger sisters, Evali, who impressed a green at High Reaches Weyr, and Kiami, who died in the plague shortly after their arrival at the Weyr. Devaki became gravely ill along with most of the exiles after their arrival on the mainland; though recovered, he was left weakened. Devaki was very vocal amongst the islanders and Weyrfolk about his intention to see the Blood claims of the exiles recognized.
Along with Raum, Devaki went missing from the Weyr during Turn 26, shortly after the death of the former exile Seani. His whereabouts were unknown until he showed up at High Reaches Hold during Turn 28, where his engagement to the Lady Issedi of High Reaches Hold was announced. The new Lord Holder Braeden also acknowledged the Blood rights of the exiles, something that is undoubtedly attributed to Devaki's influence. It was made known that all former islanders were welcome at High Reaches Hold, and that arrangements would be made to support them.
He and Issedi were married in the middle of Turn 29, and had a son, Vinien, early in Turn 30. He appears to have a good relationship with Lord Braeden, which is perhaps why he was named successor when Braeden stepped down in Turn 31. He was confirmed as Lord Holder of High Reaches a short time later.
Devaki and his wife, Issedi, had one son, Vinien, and three daughters, Sealene, Esiara and Alani. It is rumored that Issedi was pregnant with their fifth child when she was murdered at the end of Turn 36. The murderer was exiled to the Western Islands.

Prologue
There was a time when he'd dreamed of bigger and better things. Of seeing new wonders on the islands, of bringing change to the inhabitants, finding buried treasure, or a nearby island with plentiful resources, of maybe, just maybe, bringing his people freedom and returning to their place in society. And claiming his place in the family - he had a strong case, a solid ancestry. He had always been careful to keep that, just as his father had, and his father, and his great grand-father, who had been exiled by Lord Beradin.
There were times where he dreamed of living a simple life, finding a wife, settling down. But he'd seen the charts. He'd done the ancestry again and again. He was Blooded and deserved to marry high and profitably for his family. Whichever way he traced the genealogy, it was clear: there were no good matches for him that weren't on the edge of being interbred. He often wondered if he should, anyway. To keep their Bloodline alive. But what if the child was born wrong? They had rustic at best knowledge of midwifery.
He could marry someone much older than him. Maybe. But there was risk in diluting the Blood, too.
The Blood mattered here.
He was their Guardian, the protector of their minds. It was easy to lose your sanity in this place, and he kept them sane. But he did wonder, sometimes, how to kept himself sane. His father had failed at that. And it was his duty as the eldest son to take up the reins.
Description
There is no modesty, no self-consciousness about this man, only a sureness of self and purpose. He has a perpetually unkempt look about him, no doubt in great part due to dark blond hair that will never quite sit flat or in the one spot. His chin is just shy of being square; eyes are deep-set and a light blue, his skin refusing to darken despite long hours spent outdoors. He is a person of perpetual motion, rarely sitting still. He's dressed in finery befitting a Lord, sporting the knot of High Reaches Hold. In contrast to his clothes, an oddly simple, small beltknife hangs from one of the loops.
Background
Devaki is the great-grandson of Dinami, the third son of then-Lord-Beradin's half brother Radiel and his wife Mimet. Dinami had been trained as a healer, and specialised in mindhealing. He had no wish to Hold, and no intent to rule; he simply supported his eldest brother Henret, and as a consequence, he and his entire family were exiled to the island.
While their knowledge of healing faded, they attempted to keep as much knowledge as possible within the family, particularly of mindhealing. Dinami's descendants have always played a strong role within the island, serving on the Council of Elders, and they keep a close watch on the lineages, often strongly advising potential matches to be broken for fear of the dwindling diversity in the bloodline.
Both Devaki's parents died during the Turns of the comet pass. Viremi, his grandfather, served on the Council, leaving the duty of protecting and maintaining the island's lineages to Devaki.
Since being rescued by the High Reaches Weyr riders, Devaki has made no secret of his intent to restore his family's lineage to its rightful place and, by extent, provide a place for all the exiles to belong on the mainland. To this end, he has recruited the Other, Raum, to assist him with his investigations and the more untidy aspects of such an endeavor.
On day 23, month 6 of Turn 26, Raum and Devaki went missing, shortly after the death of the former exile Seani. His whereabouts were unknown for the best part of two Turns. Later, however, during month 9 of Turn 28, he surfaced at High Reaches Hold, the new Lord Holder Braeden having announced his impending marriage to his sister, Issedi, as well as acknowledging the Blood rights of the Exiles. How much influence Devaki had on these series of events remains to be seen, though many are blaming him for the dissolution of the engagement between Issedi and Aughan.
Devaki and Issedi were married at a lavish ceremony at High Reaches Hold on day 25, month 6 of turn 29, at the height of summer. Their marriage was, perhaps, upstaged by the announcement of Lord Braeden and Yuliye of Crom's marriage. Four months after the wedding, Devaki and Issedi announced that the latter was pregnant, with the child Vinien, a son, born in month 2 of Turn 30.
Late in Turn 30, Devaki, Issedi and Vinien along with their entourage including nanny Diendra, lady-in-waiting Hana, and bodyguard Raum arrived at High Reaches Weyr. Supposedly sent to oversee some works on the road between Hold and Weyr, the group remained for three months. Rumors had it they were sent to keep an eye on the divided and rocky leadership of High Reaches Weyr, though whether they took any advantage of that is anyone's guess. All that is known is that, when Lady Edeline's purported heir Impressed at the hatching, the High Reaches Hold contingent departed soon after, though Hana, strangely, remained.
Devaki, along with his wife, was known to be at Tillek Hold during months 6 and 7 of Turn 31, there to cement and witness the wedding of Lady Edeline's eldest step-daughter, Carilee, to his cousin, Tomaeran. It was there, too, that rumors of Lady Issedi's second pregnancy began to surface. Over the next several months, Devaki spent a good deal of time outside the Hold, often seen with dragons of the Weyr. It was also around then that Devaki learned of his four-Turn old son, Dilan, by Madilla. On day 26, month 10 of Turn 31, Issedi gave birth to their daughter, Sealene.
During the autumn harvest festival on day 18, month 11 of Turn 31, it was announced that Braeden had stepped down as Lord Holder (owing, rumor had it, to the fact that he had yet to produce an heir, or the desire to do so), and Devaki was confirmed as his successor by the Conclave of Holders. Unfortunately, his big moment was ruined by the attempted attack of pirates on one of the trader ships in High Reaches water, foiled by the presence of a wing of weyrling riders from the Weyr.
In the middle of month 12 of Turn 31, two weyrlings infiltrated High Reaches Hold posing as Harpers there to question the pirates being held in the Hold's dungeons. Devaki appears to have used this as an excuse to limit access to his territory by High Reaches riders, and the day before Turn's End, High Reaches Hold's tithe arrived with only a third of it's usual share, attributed directly to this event. Although there was some back-and-forth about whether the tithe would be accepted -- addressed as it was to Glacier Wing -- in the end the meager supplies ended up in the Weyr's supplies.
Some time early in month 2 of Turn 32, it begins to be known publicly that Dilan is Devaki's son by Madilla. Whether this will affect the rocky relationship between Hold and Weyr -- for good or ill -- remains to be seen. Issedi gave birth to their third child, and second daughter, Esiara, early on month 9 of Turn 33. Only a few sevens later, the pair attended Crom Lord Aughan's marriage to Ienavi, perhaps in an effort to dispel persisting rumors of lingering bad blood between the Holds.
At the start of Turn 35, Devaki's son Dilan came to live at the Hold, much to the delight of young heir Vinien who looked up to the older weyr-bred boy. This especially so when his mother Issedi gave birth to yet another sister in month 5, called Alani. By all accounts the Lord's eldest boy was welcomed, even taking a couple of sailing trips with the Lord and heir. Dilan returned to the Weyr at the end of the Turn, though not before the opportunity arose for him to name High Reaches' newest ship, christened the "Maddy", soon to be launched.
Amongst the ships destroyed in the big storm of Tillek in month 1 of Turn 36 was the Pirate Queen, High Reaches' flagship. Turn 36 also saw the resignation of Lord Wulfan of Igen, known to be close with Devaki. Thus, perhaps, it was not a surprise to many that the ex-Igen Lord was spotted at High Reaches Hold towards the end of Turn 36, the rumors of his and his wife Daroda's stay purportedly to assist the Lady Issedi with her fifth pregnancy well known.
On day 11, month 13, turn 36, during the celebrations of Issedi's 30th Turnday, an assailant attempted to attack Devaki. The islander, Rilka, stepped in, resulting in the knife striking Issedi. The Lady Reaches died in the great hall, while the assailant was caught by High Reaches residents. Early in month 1, Turn 37, the assailant was exiled to the Islands, a move viewed by some as merciful. High Reaches' Glacier wing, sent to protect the Hold after the murder, also departed shortly thereafter.
While Devaki withdrew from the public eye for some time, the Hold continued to be managed well enough, with Braeden, Wulfan and Daroda providing assistance. In month 8, Devaki took his children with him on the ship Pirate Queen II, for a visit to Tillek. Less well known was the detour to the Islands of his birth. They returned by mid month 11.
The latest rumors of mid Turn 38 suggest he may well be looking for his next wife.
