Z'ian
Contents
Description
Z'ian is a man that looks comfortably settled into his own body. Tall with broad shoulders and an appropriate level of muscle to his body he exudes a certain level of confidence that's not cocky really, but closer to being easily capable. His hair is a tousled mess of a dirty blonde that's more often than not on the shaggy side and he's usually shaven, but sometimes he'll let a five o'clock shadow creep in and mature for a few days. The angles of his face are sharp with a strong jaw and a nose that's on the longish side. The most striking and likable features about him is probably his bright blue eyes and friendly smile that lights up his face. Otherwise he's more or less typical in appearance, leaning towards the boy-next-door look.
There's nothing write home about here. He's the type of man that dresses plainly, but practically. The High Reaches are cold, so he'll wear his fur lined riding jacket. His shirts will be long sleeved and his pants will be a dark, heavy material. His boots are also heavy and made to deal with clomping around in snowy areas. The only thing that would be even relatively important about them is that they have the tendency to make him look much more bulky than he really is.
WYSK
Z'ian is a bronzerider at High Reaches Weyr. He's been there for fifteen turns and has remained off the radar for most of that time. He doesn't have any known enemies or people out to get him. Yet.
History
Originally Zachrian of High Reaches Hold, he was born the youngest son to two lower class members of the hold. His mother worked as a seamstress and his father at a variety of odd jobs around the hold itself. They never had a lot of anything but they never went without food, clothes, etc... That said, Zachrian and his brothers were mommas boys, all three of them. She provided the emotional support and lessons on how to be a good person. His father, emotionally distant but intelligent and capable provided the lessons on how not to be "a damn idiot".
His two brothers managed to find themselves a place in the world, one entering the smithcraft and the other a bit more enterprising, hitched a ship ride down south to take advantage of some trading opportunities. Zachrian spent the later portion of his teen years relatively aimless until a rider from High Reaches arrived at the hold.
Following being searched, he impressed to bronze Tsanth and became known as Z'ian. Since then he's been at the weyr for many of the important events that have unfolded since then, though always on the sidelines and never as a major player. Over the turns he's shed off the preconceptions of weyr life that many holders are known for harboring and has settled in to become a relatively well adjusted and pro-High Reaches Weyr rider.
At thirty-two he's had a string of long term relationships with different women. He's the known father to at least two children, though he doesn't do a lot of active parenting. Z'ian is a kind but mostly absentee and awkward sort of man when it comes to younger children. His kids don't suffer from it as they're raised primarily by their mothers in the lower caverns with the rest of the weyrbrats. He visits them when it's important to but otherwise keeps out of the way.
He's walked a fine line of neutrality with most things, keeping his mouth shut about exiles, convicts and other strange introductions of people that have occurred. Like many however he's been dismayed by the recent loss of their Weyrwoman and the subsequent stepping down of K'del. A man that's usually light hearted and relaxed he's had a hard time coping with the idea of two acting Weyrwomen with little experience and he's not so sure about this B'sil guy either.
Z'ian has shown himself to be a talented mature rider with a good head on his shoulders. Among the lower caverns he's a favorite "contender" for the flight when it happens. How much of that is all in the head of wishful onlookers and people who like to waste their marks is up for debate. He certainly hasn't made any declarations one way or the other.
Relationships
Azaylia: She seems like a sweet girl, capable enough. I just hope that she has more to her than that.
Barnabas: I think he's probably crazy. He's probably eating the plants in the greenhouse. He's my kind of guy though.
Brieli: She's got a drive behind her, but there's something just a little cold in her too.
H'vier: I don't like him.
Jo: This woman is going to get me into some kind of trouble. But I keep coming back for it.
K'del: He's a good man, better than me anyway. He better win.
Madilla: She reminds me of my own mother, but less flighty and more clearheaded. She takes me back home a bit when we talk.
Taikrin: She's a woman that might be kind of crazy. But I think I like her well enough so far.
Tsanth
What a rush Impressing Tsanth must have been, Z'ian: he's nothing like you could ever have imagined.
Tsanth is bold and brash and full of life. He says what he thinks, and sometimes it's the wrong thing, but he has a certain casually irrepressible demeanour, so full of life, that he finds it easy to make friends anywhere, and with anyone. Almost anyone. He lives in the moment, focusing upon the joys and pleasures of life: the sun on his back, the wind beneath his wings, the smell of salt in the air. He's likely to fill your head with a running commentary of his life - everything he notices needs to be shared. « That green. She's so hot. So.... hot. I could fly her. We have to fly her. WAKE UP! » *head turns* « Oh. That other green! She's proddy too. I can smell her! » *big sniff* « Aw man. » Is it enough to give you a headache? It's distracting.
The thing is, while Tsanth may not be the smartest dragon around, he has charisma, and it's the kind of charisma that may well encourage others to follow him. If he set his mind to it, he could be an impressive leader... and it's something that often hovers in his thoughts. This Weyr could be his. These dragons? His. And those GREENS! He could have them ALL! Aw man. Wouldn't that be something?
And - dude. He wouldn't have to fly sweeps, like, ever.
Tsanth missed flying thread just barely - and that sucked, because Thread would have been right up his alley: much more interesting than Interval life. He's long forgotten that disappointment, though; instead, he throws himself into other endeavours. He may not have Threadscores to show off to the ladies, but it's entirely possible that he's picked up some flight scars, which he's more than happy to show off. They're manly. Impressive. Oh yeah.
He's pretty small for a bronze, but he won't let that stop him. He's the one who always goes after the biggest and the best, and who cares about anyone else. Even golds can expect to be short-changed by his determination to keep the best for himself-- so it's lucky that in general, he's more inclined to make friends than not.
Tsanth likes to paint himself as an older, wiser brother, as far as Z'ian is concerned. Subtle nudges will attempt to push him into things: into schmoozing with the goldriders, making friends in high places. He depends on Z'ian to make up for his own weak points (though he's unlikely to admit to having any: if he's not good at something, it's because he can't be bothered to try). Z'ian can expect some prods and pushes: as a team, they're amazing, right? Amazing.
Maybe he'll get what he wants. Maybe he won't. But in the meantime? There are places to visit, and friends to make. There are greens to chase... and golds, too. If Z'ian is happy, Tsanth is happy, though really? It's pretty hard to make Tsanth unhappy.
