Description
Blessed (and cursed) with an expressive face, and a tendency to wear her heart on her sleeve, Quinlys' demeanour is inclined towards effortless warmth, but can vary dramatically according to mood. There's a lazy ease to her dimpled smile, and a brightness to her blue eyes, but those eyes can turn stormy, and that smile biting-- it's difficult to miss her irritation and anger. Pretty, albeit in an every-girl kind of way, she wears her dark red hair at shoulder-length, the loose waves framing the pale oval of her face, and softening the roundness of her features. There's roundness in her body, too, lingering on despite efforts to hone and tone: she'll always be short and slightly curvy.

- Quinlys is High Reachian born and bred, the latest in a long line of riders and weyrfolk.
- She Stood for the first time at 16, for Iovniath and Cadejoth's second clutch, but did not Impress.
- Before Impressing Olveraeth at Iovniath and Cadejoth's third clutch, she worked with the cleaning crews.
- She was widely regarded as one of the top candidates for Ysavaeth's egg, but hasn't seemed too concerned with getting blue, instead: she and Olveraeth are a close pair, tightly bonded.
- She joined Meara's staff as an Assistant Weyrlingmaster for Ysavaeth and Cadejoth's clutch, and was promoted to Co-Weyrlingmaster after the dual flights of Hraedhyth and Iesaryth.
- Bright and bubbly, Quin is equal-opportunity with those she spends her time with: men and women come and go from her life on a regular basis.
History
Quinlys is High Reachian, born and bred: there are riders on both side of her family going back as far as anyone cares to look, with the occasional crafter or resident thrown in for good measure. Born relatively early in the Interval, before the Comet Pass disrupted everything, Quin had the benefit of more parental attention than she would have had only a few turns earlier. She was the second of four, the product of a happy, stable weyrmating - altogether, a very 'normal' upbringing indeed.
Her elder brother dreamed of the stars the way most weyr children dreamed of dragons, and departed for the Starcraft when he was twelve and Quin nine. Having part of her family live /away/ from the weyr was a new experience for the girl, and she found it made her nervous: /out there/ was where you visited, not where you /lived/. No doubt that is part of the reason she never considered any of the crafts, instead falling into a position with the cleaning staff as she graduated from harper lessons.
Cleaning the lower caverns - and, very occasionally, the weyrs belonging to the Weyrleaders - was not a job Quin intended to keep forever, however. She was still settling in to her position when Iovniath laid her first clutch, and elected, ultimately, not to Stand: at fourteen, most people considered her still too young. She did, however, Stand for Iovniath's second clutch, three turns later, but left the sands without Impressing. She might have stood for Iskiveth's first, but her mother - a rather more cautious soul - convinced her otherwise. Thus, her second chance came around only after she turned twenty, for Iovniath's third.
Quin joined the ranks of the candidates late, choosing to stay in her cozy dorm rather than join the madness of the exiles-infested candidate dorms. Still, she quickly became a visible member of the group: confident, bubbly, a font of knowledge, considered by many to be a likely candidate for the gold egg. When the eggs hatched, however, it was not gold she walked away with, but blue: Olveraeth.
Selected as part of the leadership programme, Quinlys shared her knowledge with Iolene as much as possible; the two became friends, in a loose sense, and that friendship continued until the goldrider's death. Early on in her weyrlinghood, Quin found herself with an ambition towards assisting Meara with the weyrlings, and ultimately achieved her aim when she became an assistant for Ysavaeth and Cadejoth's clutch. Now, with Meara's age catching up to the formidable Weyrlingmaster, Quin has begun setting her sights higher: she is determined to become Weyrlingmaster when Meara retires.
Relationships
Family
- A'quin (Arelquin) - Green Kianneth, Taiga Wing, weyrbred. Staunch K'del supporter. Father. Kianneth was badly scored early on in the Comet Pass; they were grounded for some time, to his great frustration.
- Lysanne - Bluerider, weyrbred. Mother. Resented the Comet Pass for interrupting her time with her family.
- Lyarel - Journeyman Starsmith. Older brother.
- Rysa (Arysanne) - Failed to Impress from Ysavaeth and Cadejoth's clutch, but was sent to Monaco to try for Iesaryth. Ended up Impressing green Elsarath instead. Younger sister.
- N'qui (Anquin) - Stood for the first time for Rielsath and Svissath's clutch, and Impressed blue (Trevisath). Younger brother.
Others
- She was initially dubious and wary of Iolene, but grew to appreciate the goldrider; they were friends, loosely, and although Quin is not so sure about what the goldrider was doing, in the end, she misses that.
- Taikrin and Riorde are good fun to go out with. She has... more than a little crush.
- Damaris was someone she was friendly with? And then she was sort of in charge of her? This weyrlingmaster business is weird.
- Meara is Quinlys' boss. She was her teacher not all that long ago. It's definitely weird, but Quin definitely respects her. She is also determined to replace her.
- Brieli sort of makes her feel awkward. They got along at first, and then Quin got surprised and confused and really stepped in it. And then Brieli was one of her charges and... Awkward. Now, the goldrider might become the Weyrwoman, and that's awkward too.
- Kinory is so sweet and unsure, and Quin can't help herself but try and help.
- Z'ian is kind of cute and adorable.
- Ceawlin is a Harper. Enough said.
