Like a dreamy star-scape, patterned by the imaginative hands of an apprentice starsmith, this angular dragon's hide is bedecked in brilliantly luminous blue. His wings are oversized for the slender form of his torso, built like solar sails destined to carry him far; paler than his body, they have a cloudy, insubstantial quality marshalled carefully by the stark blue-black of his pinions. Across his haunches and belly, his hide gives the impression of being stretched too thin, clinging tightly to each bone, muscles barely hinted at beneath. Dark shadows mark his face above each searching, intelligent eye, giving the impression of over-exaggerated eyebrows - and a certain amount of manic eccentricity that is matched by his frenetic movements.

Final Frontier Egg

The darkness of this egg, spangled as it is with tiny white specks, calls to mind nothing more than the night sky. But the dots are really too regular, too even in size and coloration, to do anything but vaguely resemble stars, and no midnight sky has ever been that shade of near-perfect black. And there is certainly no analogue in the Pernese sky to the blob of slate-grey shapes - all swooping curves and dramatic lines - that streak across its side. Or /is/ there?!

With a great /thud/, the darkly shelled Final Frontier Egg rolls over onto one side, giving the dragon inside just enough momentum to push himself free - the very first. Luminously blue, bedecked in stars, the mid-sized hatchling gives the world an expectant, curious glance before lunging off towards the candidates. Though widely considered a top choice for the gold, weyrbred Quinlys shows no regrets as she wraps her arms around him, whispering his name so quietly that only those nearest could know for sure: "Olveraeth."

Inspiration

Carl Sagan and all the other TV scientists who share that certain charisma that lets other people be inspired by their enthusiasm for their subject.

Egg Inspiration: The Red Hot Chilli Peppers said it best - 'Space may be the final frontier, but it was made in a Hollywood basement.' (Star Trek, obviously).

Quinlys is High Reaches born and bred, the second of four children born to A'quin and Lysanne. After completing her harper studies, she joined the cleaning crews - a job she only ever intended to be temporary. She Stood for the first time at age sixteen, for Iovniath and Cadejoth's second clutch, but failed to Impress. Having stood out Iskiveth's first, she Stood for the second time in Turn 26, for Iovniath and Cadejoth's third, and this time Impressed blue Olveraeth - though she had widely been considered a likely candidate for Iolene's Ysavaeth.

During Weyrlinghood, Quinlys developed an ambition for the Weyrlingmaster's role. She talked her way into the Assistant Weyrlingmaster ranks in time for Ysavaeth and Cadejoth's first clutch, and though it was not without problems, she did seem to have aptitude for the job. Even so, she was not Meara's first choice for Co-Weyrlingmaster, a position she stepped into after the dual flights of Hraedhyth and Iesaryth.

When Meara did step down, after the dual clutches graduated, her knot fell to Quinlys; the bluerider could say 'at last,' but she was, after all, still only twenty-six, and there are plenty who could say that, maturity-wise, she has a long way to go.
